3rd party sellers, any catch?
Im thinking about buying a pre order for starfield and was looking around on this site i use that shows the current prices on "reputable" sellers. I see that there's discounts the lowest of which is 17% for both the standard edition and deluxe edition on these 3rd party sites.

Is there any risk involved buying from these, especially if I buy the deluxe edition to play early?

Also I can't name any of the sites due to steam rules so sorry if this is vague

the only risk is that you wont be able to refund.
ofc you might also not be able to preload since they keys will most likely be given to you sep 1 when deluxe get access.

pre-orders wont get fulfilled until day of official release, some second party vendors are "official" these are usually trustworthy but some have "risks" associated with them, for example a key or game being "gifted" to you via a 3rd party account.

If they are somehow able to provide a "it fell off the truck" discount, and you are forbidden from mentioning their names in legitimate venues, what do you think?

with premium edition it might be different.
For example i know for hogwarts legacy that also had a version with EA, people got their keys on the day of the EA, not the official date.

No the sites I'm talking about are more legit but I know the ones you mean for sure. I'm forbidden from mentioning any name because I could get banned for advertising.

We don't even know if the "real" steam premium edition owners get it 2 days before early access to preload it.

Or you have a trustworthy source that can proof that we can preload it before early access begins?

If i wanted to save some bucks i would just buy the premium edition from a third party keyseller and download it on 1st September. I mean ppl with fast internet won't need any preload time anyway.

no but in the CASE of preload, people who buy it from third party sites might not get it in time to preload, since they will get it the day/time it comes out.
sorry should have mentioned IF there is preload.

Yea I've got 1gbps so I'm not worried I just care about playing early. I'll probably end up buying on steam as to not "risk it"

Yeah because playing it a few hours later, would be like the end of the world.

If you can't name the sites, it may be because they are not as reputable as you think. The notorious one that sells "insurance" in case you get a "bad" key is for sure banned. However, I can mention Fanatical, Humble Bundle, GOG, GMG, Epic, Origin, without their being cut be Steam censors.

Long story short is if it is on https://isthereanydeal.com/ it is legitimate, other sites however might list less reputable places.

https://gg.deals/ Does list ones with unknown sources under their risky category.

GreenManGaming is full legit, and it's quite cheaper than Steam. And with your 1Gbit net(same as mine...) I would buy it with zero hesitation!

You'll need to be more specific. There are so many resellers. Who are you talking about??
Fanatical? G/2/A? GreenManGaming? Humble Bundle? CDkeys? GamersGate? IndieGala?
Some are dodgy for sure and I wouldn't recommend them, a site like Fanatical on the other hand is quite reputable and reliable.

Don't really think it matter what store it is.

there are 2 (maybe 3) catches.

1: no refunds
2: if there will be preloads, people who buy it from third party sellers might not get the key before release and wont be "ready to play day 1".
and 3: if bought from a grey market website, there is a super small chance that keys will get revoked if bought with stolen credit cards or other shady ways.
