The biggest negative for it hit me right at the start because I role-play. I know, weird thing to do in a RPG, but there you go. So right at the start you have to join, or at least pretend to join, the House Va'ruun cult. And if you don't. That's it. You're locked out of the quests in this DLC. You may as well have never bought it.
Again, I role-play. If I play a UC native I do not join the FreeStar Collective. If I am a FSC native I do not join the Vanguard. If I join the Vanguard I do not become a Crimson Fleet Pirate. And if I'm not playing a religious fanatic, I do not join the House Va'ruun. So the only way I can play this DLC is to create a new toon that has this mindset in place, then goes through 35+ levels of grinding planets (good thing their is plenty of them to do this on), not join any other faction because of course they wouldn't, and then start this DLC and welcome the home world with open arms.
It's just FUBAR all the way around, at least if you're a role-player. Sure I could make up some nonsense to make it all work out, just like people used to somehow make D&D backgrounds where they are a Monk and Paladin just for the perks. But I just follow more realistic role-playing, and this DLC just make that all but impossible. Just more of the 'just let the players do anything' mentality from BGS that makes their game worlds so unbelievable anymore.
It introduced more exploration, which is one of my main gripes with starfield. There's also immense dialogue trees for NPCs, new weapons, enemies etc.
What I really want is more choices, edginess, aliens, better exploration, better skill tree,
These type of games need to follow the fallout new vegas format.
I'd been hoping for a few more novel PoI maps of some complexity, and a new skill per field. Also, having only three novel different tiny PoI-maps was a bit of a disappointment, none midsize maps I've found so far... ...and all that in one system, which doesn't even have all the ressources needed for a decent Shipyard. Which IMHO should have had its special stuff on sale, just like all the UC / FC manufacturers have. A sadly missed opportunity. Also: No hab style to build in outposts? Aw, man, the Va'ruun architecture does have a distinct style. Why can't I adopt it?
Makes one wonder whether there had been more Va'ruun worlds that simply got smashed by the combined might of the UC & FC... ...which again would have opened up new story options. It's totally unclear - recent catastrophic events acknowledged - how the Va'ruun managed to field a fleet of any size, I had hoped for more there.
But after the gloom and nagging:
The content quality of Shattered Space - story-wise as well as from the tactical / theatrical viewpoint - is totally fine! I really enjoyed the gameplay, the lore, and the story.
I Just had hoped for more (even considering that probably the Vehicles originally were intended to be part of the bundle...)
Is the OP asking a question? Is it a celebration of something they love? Is it critical of the game? Why is every thread a fight?
Please don't mention headaches :-)
