Which is to say, Starfield is neither my favorite nor my least favorite Bethesda RPG. Some will consider it anathema for me to place Starfield and FO3 over Oblivion, but I just wasn't a fan of Oblivion's bright, shiny, western "knights and castles" fantasy visual design personally. But I love all of them in their own ways (and for their own times.)
Of course, everyone's tastes differ. Which is why I qualified it with, "my personal tastes run: "
For me, the roleplay aspect in character leveling is awful in Skyrim.
3 attributes: Health, Stamina, Magicka.
These are core attributes in Oblivion, which get calculated by the actual attributes.
Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Endurance, Personality and Luck.
There have been hardcoded perks already available for each skill that got unlocked at 25, 50, 75 and 100.
(Like for Acrobatics you have been able to jump over water when raised to 100).
I get that the animations and graphics are better, but still...
Guess I had invested too much time into Oblivion, so I wasn't able to fully enjoy Skyrim anymore and look over the fact that it got dumbed down.
I even missed the repair-aspect of gear. :(
Loved Morrowind!
I sort of started with Oblivion unfortunately, so this game has the most nostalgy effect of every BGS game on me.
However, when I would have started with Morrowind I possibly would have realized in Oblivion already that Bethesda dumbs their games down.
Morrowind has even more skills and attributes than Oblivion.
Oblivion, while not my favorite just owing to its setting and visual design (just not my taste) will still live in my heart and memory forever because of moments like: "A knight errant! That's a real special kinda knight!" 😂 I loved that game's sense of whimsy.
I somewhat enjoyed reading books in Morrowind and get subtle hints about where to go. Felt a lot like Myst / Riven.
