This might seem like a silly question, but you do have disk space available for the new save, right?
Autosaves working kinda make sense, as they replace the old save, but if you're running outta space, it coiuld be crashing as the new save lacks enough space...
You might find even autosaves eventually start to crash if storage is the issue...
Believe it or not, I do remember someone on the FO4 forums having similar problems way back, now that I think about it, and it turned out their laptop's SSD was full...
I found another thread from July people having the same issue but some of them had made console changes to the game, I have not. I play vanilla, no mods and no console edits.
I will test this today and see if it changes anything.
My save folder size before I removed anything was only 1.3GBs. Weird....
