Question : Is upgrading FRONTIER at early levels not necessary ?
I Was following a guide to upgrade FRONTIER at lv7 with cost about 40 (w/ commerce skill 2) , putting partible beam 4 , bigger reactor and grav drive , more habs for crew+ and 2 additional engines

on my 3rd fight in some random system (not far from jamison) i got attack by some ships and i destroyed 2 (particle beam killed the enem faster than i can damage the engines) and boarder the last one , a class B ship

since i got a class B driving license i captured it and registered in space (for 21k) and now i am using it since it have better cargo than my upgraded frontier except for PB weapons which i added soon..

so upgrading FRONTIER at early level (except for adding CARGO room) seem rather pointless ?

TRUE OR FALSE ?

I instead try to save 130k credits to buy a War Horse at Neon. Its a A class ship with a 28 power reactor... After that, i'm gonna spend around 50-100k to make a really good A class ship that gonna last for a very long time.

It never is really. The weapons are the key. A combination of two or more will handle anything. The only real reason to upgrade the Frontier is for more hard points thus more weapons.

The Frontier is REALLY small. It doesn't really pay to upgrade, especially since you should encounter better ships just through normal questing. I'l resist spoilers.

i got the secret outpost quest but the planet is highlited in RED when i tried to go there usign my class B ship... red means it is unreachable for my current ship ?

but yes i AGREE with your statement , making frontier a cargo hauler with 2000+ cargo space and 4 Particle beam and upgraded reactor+hab+grav make it slow like fat cow..

please DM me for your spoilers , i dont mind spoilers

You already know where you have to go, you just mentioned it. You can also do the Akila Rangers' questline or just the main quest, but that's a bit far on.

I always upgrade the Frontier and it upgrades nicely. Sure when i first started playing i skipped right over upgrading it because you can get the Razorleaf shortly after, then the Star Eagle. But on my next playthrough I started upgrading all 3 of those ships and they were extrememly powerful. Of course you build your own which I always do and nothing is better than building your own.

But, to add to what i said in my previous post - nothing you do is pointless in this game when it comes to your ships, not if you don't think it was.

I never bother upgrading the Frontier. It's to easy to get better ships, free. Like the Razor Leaf

agreed, yes it is. I simply enjoy doing so. Lots of choices that's for sure.

I prefer to capture ships early on as you will usually get a better platform to upgrade ie reactor/engines plus 100% of your money left for upgrades to cargo, weapons etc

agreed on your posts here and on the above reply to my original posts.

yes , it is the player's own choice and preference that is so FUN in this game

i can go with FRONTER Unmodded , board and capture better ship and registered it

or

i can go with simple +crew hab and +cargo mudles for the cheap for hauling misisons from Trade authority quest

or like i did now play around with ship mode for the first time , spending HOURS on the ship builder and then making the most ridiculously overpowered overcargocapacity over weaponzed ship that good at combat but so slow it is like a turtle lol

thanks vlad !!

Yeah this game is endless choices, lots of fun, great planet exploration as well, which btw surveying those planets is something I enjoy when i want a break from dogfights or ground battles, or ship or outpost building. Glad you're enjoying....

i usually run from all fights, sticking all power to grav drive with the Frontier.
The Frontier's too small to modify, and lacking most features (It can't for instance, have a bed + a workshop since it's only got space for 1 1x2 hab... and placing a weapon workbench down in build mode is awkward; plus there's no space for the other workbenches)

ofcourse you can expand it, but you'll find your camera glitches out every load of the game if you make it too *long* (Until you modify the ship again, anyway. This is due to the camera resetting every time you quit the game.)

That's why whenever i want to build a ship, i buy (or capture/steal) one that is the full 80m long, and use that as a base. This way I don't come back the next day to find the camera stuck up it's backside.
It's difficult to fly when you can't see anything.........
