Do creation kit mods play well with mods you install through Nexus?
I'm no expert on mods but I recall a recent update to Fallout 4 broke some third party mods and the recommendation was to not use creation kit mods at the time? Just want to make sure I'm not breaking my game if I buy and install some creation kit mods as some of them look cool.

Your going to need todo some more research and extra steps when you use mods outside of creations but in the end yes its posible to use both outside creations mods as inside creations mods at the same time.

They're playing well for me. The Fallout 4 thing is entirely related to the script extender as far as I am aware. The script extender breaks itself every time Beth releases a new version. This is intended and how it should be. Otherwise, you can wind up with unusable saves. So, yeah, if you're using the SE or any mods upon which it is dependent, a new version will "break" your game. The CC doesn't have or allow the Script Extender. So, basically, you should not have any issues if you're not using the SE or Nexus mods that use it. There are, however, a lot of broken mods that are not being updated. So... I'd be leery of anything on Nexus that has not been updated since the CC update a month ago. Some are okay, others aren't. If in doubt, ask on Nexus.

It depends on the mod, I could get into things like load-order, but it may be beneficial to just read up a bit and experiment.

Also, load order is important.

I do use script extender for Starfield, but all the mods I use are updated. Appreciate the info, everyone!

It seems most creations are broken as of right now, i have a bunch installed but only 3 load, thats good ol bugthesda for you, fix one thing, break 17 others. So much potential yet so half baked.

The problem with the Fallout 4 mods was the update made changes which required the mods to be updated if they required the Script Extender. The F4SE was updated, which broke the mods, not the game.

Many FO4 mods go all the way back to 2016 and the mod authors may have moved on since then. The mods with active authors had no problems with Fallout 4, once they were updated.
