Interesting mods start coming out now
The DLC is supposed to come out in September, wait for BEThesta to release another patch, to try to keep computers from exploding and to update the mods
'Good enough' can mean much different things to different people. You should start by browsing the mods available on the Nexus site and see if any of them seem good enough to you. As to 'upcoming mods', I'm sure there are a lot in the works that are unknown at this time. Just keep checking the Nexus site for new mods every so often.
I always suggest that people play vanilla first so you have an idea of what you want for mods, just like is recommended with Skyrim.
One thing for sure, imo when you do start using mods it's important to use mods that were created from June 9th and after since that's when the Creation kit Came out. So make sure you read everything including using the "Preview file" to make sure that if the mod contains a plugin it's NOT an .esp, this game only uses .esm mods unless it's a texture mod then you're fine. ba2 is fine as well. But under no circumstance should the mod contain an .esp
I could go into more detail on the above but if you are familiar with mods and modding Bethesda games you should be able to take it from there.
As always is the case, just like with Skyrim, read everything and when in doubt ask.
I'll add that normally mods made with xEdit are every bit as good as mods made with the Creation Kit. But as the creator of xEdit himself has said, we do not yet have a full version of xEdit. So it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially in these early days of modding Starfield. Oh and one mod I'd highly recommend you start with is the Unofficial Starfield Patch (USFP). The Starfield Script Extender is fine as well.
And yes, if you choose your mods properly there are some excellent mods out there. I've been running the past 300 hours with about 90 mods and my game runs and looks great. Oh and use a mod manager.
I usually prefer immersive mods. Like others have stated though, the modding scene for Starfield is still very young. There are a few large mods, but they are very buggy still. Nothing really in the way of total conversions and that's probably going to be the case for awhile.

Not yet. You won't see either a 50% discount, or a good selection of meaningful mods for at least a year (try next Steam Summer sale, 2025). CK was released just a while ago, so modders need time to ramp up. And MS needs time to believe the game is no longer a front-runner for sales. Ergo sum, 2025 mid-to-late.
Depends on what you want. I think the only mods that are absolutely necessary are the npc height randomizer and the companion mods that let you take more than one companion with you. Other than that I think the Vanilla game is a lot of fun. If you liked Oblivion or Skyrim and also liked Mass Effect then you will probably like this.
