Just leave it on. There is a hide option if you don’t want to see it in cities.

On the Spacesuit menu of your inventory you'll find the option at the bottom to hide your spacesuit in settlements. And you'll see a similar option on the helmet menu.

You still get all the armor benefits to wearing it even if hidden.

If you'd like your spacesuit to hide everywhere there's breathable atmosphere, (the same way it works for companions) there are mods that will do that.

Look for 'Smarter Spacesuit Auto Hide' in the creations menu. (its free)
Or 'Hide Spacesuits in Breathable Areas (HSIBA)' on the Nexus.

ok, thanks.

dunno about any mods, but the default hide does not work well. I frequently have my suit on but helmet off in breathing areas like inside my ship. Its messy.

That's generally what you'd want, however the way it works for companions there are a few situations where it is absolutely going to break immersion in a horrible way.

For example the derelict ship where artificial gravity turns off and on every couple of seconds. It is breathable, but no gravity means space suit for the boost pack, and your companion will magically be in suit and out of it every couple of seconds.

Or the party cruise if you decide to turn off gravity, and a few others as well.

The default spacesuit hide only works in settlements. The helmet hide works in any breathable area.

The mods I mentioned will hide spacesuits in any breathable area like the helmets.

The Smarter Spacesuit mod I mentioned specifically addresses the gravity shutoff map so that doesn't happen. Works for companions too.

Oh, that is good to know, thank you.

Here is a link to the smarter spacesuit hiding mod.
Nexus version:

I think there is a creation club version too if you'd prefer that:

I don't disagree, but it's a design decision, not "messy". They've provide differing area conditions to which the suit removal applies. They just chose not to have it remove in areas you (and I) would prefer. For your own sanity, I'd recommend the Smarter Spacesuit Auto Hide mod. It's available on Nexus or Creations. Deebz is a solid mod author.

well it seems common sense to have your space suit off when your companion does.
