There are plenty of quality modders working on SFCP, but it does not appear, to me, to be as well managed. The number of reversions alone has me scratching my head. Also, I've heard from others that they've had issues, especially with quests breaking that I've completed multiple times fine, while using SFCP.
I went with USFP because of the team's history of providing quality patches.
Anything you read bashing the Unofficial Patch team or its members probably has its originations on reddit. There are a handful of people who disagree with decisions made in some patches and are very vocal about it. Though, I suspect it has more to do with Arthmoor pulling some mods from Nexus when Nexus stripped modders of their copyrights by making non-deletion of mods a requirement the modder must agree to in order to upload their mods.
I've contemplated a test profile using SFCP because Improved Follower Behavior behaves poorly without it. I do not know why the IFB modder (who was the same modder to provide the fix for SFCP) did not also include a patch or IFB version that doesn't require SFCP, but there you go. They did say they might provide a distance choice via FOMOD in the future, but it's not a sure thing.
Hope that helps you make a decision OP.
