I'm not a fan of mod organisers. I prefer to manually install my mods. I know it's less convenient, but you know exactly what is being added to your game and where it is being placed. And you learn more about the game structure. When troubleshooting is needed, this makes it a lot easier.

Visit the MO2 Discord and go to the dev builds channel. Get the latest dev build (I think it is currently 2.5.2dev5) and install it.

Support for Starfield is fairly good. LOOT doesn't work because mods are all ESM vs. ESP but that's trivial. Installing Creations is a bit tedious but workable. Nexus mods installations work as they always have.

---
In the Creations page in game select one Creation to download and do that.
Note the name of the Creation, you will need it in a moment.

Exit the game.

The files for the Creation will be stored in the Overwrite folder in MO2.
Select "Create a mod from overwrite" in the context (right-click) menu in Overwrite and enter the name of the Creation.

Now you have a mod from a Creation.

Enable it and put it in your load order wherever you think is best or where the mod author recommends.

Do the same for the next Creation, if any. And so forth.

I’ve been with Nexus for years w/o issue. MO2 has its fans. Pick one and learn to use it and you will do fine.

Either of those two are solid mod managers. I personally find Vortex slightly easier to configure, but maybe that's just me. It doesn't really matter which one you use, both work fine, take your pick.

Installing manually is risky in the extreme, and can break your game if you're not careful. Download one dubious or glitched mod and there's no easy way of uninstalling it.

It also makes manual recording necessary, deleting a nightmare, and overwriting about as hard as it can be.

I'm using Vortex for a mixed (CC and Nexus) mod list, no issues. BUT, my list is fairly small, about a dozen from each source.
