Reputation System
Why doesn't this game have a reputation system yet? I understand it might have been an oversight at launch, but by now there has been plenty of time to implement one. Has no one even tried to make a mod for it?

It would be enough to add +x reputation points per mission for a particular faction, both secondary and main missions. This would finally give a purpose to bulletin board missions for farming, and every 20 points could unlock items purchasable only at faction-specific shops, up to 100 points. Imagine unique items available only if you decide to join the Crimson Fleet, more contraband storage for your ship, energy weapons and implants from Ryujin Industries, or exploration gear (like jetpacks) from Constellation.

Cut for future DLC or paid mods.

Its because Bethesda want you to be able to to anything in game without major restrictions. Same as you could join the Assasins and the mages in Skyrim.

Reputation systems are designed to restrict you from content because of your choices. Its against the games ethos.

It's not really a fan service type of game. It's more binary, they're either friends or enemies, depending on what you do.

Also, your second paragraph, unique faction rewards, they're there. Have you even played the game? One of the first things you get from a faction is the Constellation suit, helmet, and pack. There's no real need for faction-specific branded gear. I mean, it's there, but there's no need to hard sell it. There are corporation-specific stores though, which makes sense, I guess. Other than that, I think you'll like the Tracker's Alliance. They DO have a store (of sorts) in the latest update where you can trade Astras for various rare gear items. I haven't bought anything yet, so can't speak to "quality" or if it's better than any random roll loot drops.

You can of course pretend that faction rewards and reputation rewards are the same as getting a reward for being railroaded into a faction within minutes of starting the game.

You do you kdodds. As you have for months.

It's not exactly what you want, but I saw a recent mod which allows you to pick a weapon maker brand as a part of the character creation. This gives you bonuses for using that company's weapons and negatives for using the other brands.

It's not much yet, but it is sort of a start in the direction you want to go.

Action/Adventure. That's what you get.

People in dreamland still praying for it to be a role-playing game. Hoping that their action/adventure purchase has deep, engaging relationships.

It's funny when games like this are released, people always ask, "Can I just walk up and kill anybody in this game? I want to be able to kill everybody."

While at the same time, claiming that it's a role-playing game.

Crazy.

Well, you kinda have reputation with certain quests. Depending on choices you make. You technically have rep with many factions depending on how you interact with them.

But im sure a mod will come eventually that addresses it.

I think it might be feasible to add something akin to Cyberpunk's street cred to the radiant quests. It might be harder to add it to unique quests.
