Its simple you just have to think about the potential consequences in the future or when it gets more popular.
I ll give you an example:
Years ago people argued that its not a problem if that one game has a season pass, or MTs - these days 99% of games have those and good price/value explansions dont exist anymore - games even get less cosmetic content so that people are more eager to pay for cosmetics.
Or how about your mobile phone and PC? Years ago there were some apps that started to sell subscriptions - people argued - "hey its not a problem its just a few and you can stil also make a one time pruchase" - guess what - today there is more and more software even for PC you cant even buy anymore - instead you pay an absurd ammount of money for subscriptions. And on your mobile phone? Have fun finding apps you can buy and not pay an insane ammount for a subscription - yes many are free - but that in fact they arent it just means that you are the product - and yes i gladly payed for disabling ads etc. in apps.
Or how about game-launchers? No problem its just 2 - 3 - until every publisher suddenly made his own awful launcher and made games exclusive ...
For mods:
- paid mods mean less deep modding since you cant do mod dependencies when every mod is paid
- paid mods means more copyright problems within the modding community
- paid mods means less deep modding because many adavanced tools used by many mods simply cant be sold on the modstore etc.
- paid mods means even less control over your mods - game update? Have fun. Mod removed because copyright problems etc. -> have fun with your broken 300 hour savegame.
- paid mods will probably also be a thing that will make expansions for Bethesda way less interresting than simply selling small overpriced Mods
They shouldn't be in single player games. That's like putting advertisement during cutscene.
Yurk.
Don't say that out loud in case someone hears you! LOL
To be honest - i wouldnt even be that mad about ads in games if there were made in an immersive way. For example - drinks in games with fantasy versions of real brands. Using car brands for cars in games - adjusted to the setting etc. And obviously not in a "in your face" fashion.
The main problem of marketing is - that its awfully implemented.
I mean, I played Swtor! Imagine, a game that give LOADING Prioritee to the Subscriber over peeps who aren't.
Oh, that game is the epic of putting a $$$ on everything. Hell even the Emoji are must buy before using LOL
I'm surprised they didn't make the player pay for just walking around LOL
You're not the only one.
Bethesda have introduced paid mods more than once before now.
It's never detrimentally impacted the modding scene around the games.
There is quite literally no reason to believe it will be any different now.
I remember them restarting the servers for that game to fix a typo the cash shop. It could definitely be far worse here.
I already Quit Tv because of commercial. I get the same feeling as road rage when they start.
If they make me Quit gaming....the nuke of fallout would look smoll when I go off Lol
Because people don't donate to modders when the mods are free... They simply don't...
Bethesda pay the people making the mods a comission to make the mod, as if they're a contractor, so Bethesda are paying them for the content...
Self control is a thing and peeps who are upset should really get on with the program of using that.
Its not just self control its about the health of the modding community as a whole. Why should BGS be allowed to profit off the works of other people? Why should they be rewarded for work they should have done?
