I've realized that Bethesda has a particularly unique opportunity with Shattered Space
I've heard quite a bit about the problems with Starfield's story, but most could be fixed by a simple tweak to the story lines here and there. Spoilers ahead... As those of who have beaten the game know, there's a bit of a multiverse thing going on. You can end up in universes where you're facing an evil alternative version of yourself who killed everyone, team up with yourself, meet an avenging daughter, a retired Constellation, etc.

In 99% of circumstances when there is a problem with a game's story, the developers cannot simply change or fix it. The closest I've ever seen was Mass Effect 3 extending their ending to alter it. Shatter Space has the chance to fix many things. Someone badly written? Well in shattered space you fix it in a time travel or alternate universe post unity scenario. They can really do anything they want within reason. (Unreasonable would be altering a story element so fundamental it requires you rewrite the entire game to accommodate it.) Hell, you could even return to your original universe and save the life of your companion who died based on all the wacky time travel stuff that has gone on according to the game. Like one starborn was sent to the 1800s apparently? Or the guy who made the grav drive learning it from himself? What are your thoughts? What would you like to see changed or altered in a NG+ or Shattered Space scenario? Curious to see what Steam users have to say, as the Reddit population was rather vehement that the story had no issues and was great. :p

My hope for Shattered Space is it can add some compelling story reasons for progressing through NG+.

To me it looks like every questline is meant to get a sequel. What happens with the terromorphs after the microbe or aceless solution, Will ryujin take over Neon (corporate war against Bayi?), what happens to Hopetech and radical groups in the freestar collective etc.

They could add more to each questline, and links between them, without altering the stories already present. That would be more straightforward and easier than relying on NG+.

The unity doesn't work like that. You don't time travel, you enter a parrellel universe that is very close to the universe you came from but clearly lagging behind the universe you came from. The universe you came from continues on as normal just without you and influenced by your choices before entering the unity. You can't go back in time in that universe and save your companion, you can only prevent it from repeating in another universe. The Starborn don't like you doing this though or at least the emissary.

The 'First Contact' mission/quest. The story just annoys me. It's a classic SciFi dilemma, (who's authority takes precedent re claim to territory). The 'Colonist' ship is overtaken by the Settlers with Grav Drive tec. and a claim war could break out. You could at least be hired to survey planets for them to settle or negotiate an area of the planet for them, perhaps even help them set up a settlement. The ending as written is just 'flat' for me.

And all this.

That one had a disappointing ending, for sure. Good set up, but an option to help them overthrow the Corp on the planet or find a new planet would have been nice. Your options are basically blow them up or convince them to become indentured servants.

So does the Unity seek only universes roughly identical to the one you left, only lagging behind time wise, or all universes of the multiverse roughly identical, just the same universe at different points in time? That one guy who got sent to the 1800s seems to have been sent to the 1800s in all universes we go to. He just seems to be like a universal fact of these Unity chosen destinations, or is that just how all of reality works? It's just the same universe but at all points in history. Are they infinite? Is there an infinite number of universes set in 1923? Can we run out of new universes to jump because they'll all one day progress past the day we touched the artifact? I have so many questions, lol.

I've noticed that trend with missions. Good set up, bad ending.

When you talk to the guy at the unity he says you explode like a supernove, or part of you does. I suspect your previous universe gets blown up.

If that's the case why does the guy in the Unity tell you what will happen next based on your choice? Shouldn't he just say "Nothing you did matters because the second you go through the unity EVErYBODY DIES"

I don't know. He says you explode like a supernova but also says what happens with the factions. it's conflicting.

Your previous universe does not get blown up

It explodes and cool guys walk away from it. The more they ignore it, the cooler they are.
No, the old universe continues to exist. The fog you see at the end is probably what you leave behind. During the course of the game, it is also repeatedly stated that, for example, the emissary remains in the old universe or parts of your old team. basically, nobody dies.

Could that have been deliberate? It has left them open for a DLC expansion, or was it as a result of a 'rush' to the finish? I suppose we'll get some inkling with 'Shattered Space.
