Homestead is the perfect example how BGS lost it
So, lots of hours in game, level 125 etc...

Now after a long list of most boring quests, i go to Homestead, and found there the perfect example how this game is not a BGS anymore...

Lots of spoilers now.

The place is strange, people are strange, something is wrong there, but after you finish all the quests, no, there is nothing wrong... you get a monster costume and go back to whatever place you want...

I am no quest designer, but this is what i think it would be a BETHESDA Homestead guests...

Scary the tourists with the costume, the result is, more tourists, people love the monsters, the doctor gets angry, you discover that she is growing real monsters that looks like the costume, the chunks sauce is what feed the monsters, people love that sauce so the monster will eat the people and no more tourists, done, bethesda quest made, and... if you give the girl the money to college she would not be eat by the monster.

I only did the first part of this mission so far, scare the tourists wearing the costume, and I though it was a quick, pretty funny mission, a reverse take on the silly scooby doo type stuff, where instead of the hero finding out the villain is just a person wearing a costume, this time the hero is the one wearing the cheesey costume. and scaring the people away.

And of course the costume you get is silly, this is clearly a take on scooby doo or some of the other cheesy as hell comics, cartoons or video games, where it appears the enemy is a monster but end up being some shmuk wearing a silly costume, just reversed. Bethesda games always have silly stuff like this in them.

As for Homestead, yes it is a bit odd as are the people, but that kind of makes sense as the place is supposed to be a sort of living museam or at least that is what I sort of remember them saying, with the people there trying to live like their ancestors did to a certain extent, that kind of like style does call the odd balls and weirdos into the place, after all would you want to live like the people from the say 18th century did now? no I though not, most people do not want to go back to in effect the dark ages, but there are always people who look at that sort of thing and think it would be the best thing that could happen living that way.

I've the same take on this - honestly I enjoyed that quest.

@OP Not sure what Bethesda lost there - that's a pretty typical quest. To my knowledge (after playing Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 (sadly), Fallout 4) Bethesda never was in for harsh consequences. If one is looking for things like that Witcher 3 / Cyberpunk 2077 or Baldurs Gate 3 would be the better game.

You probably wanted that kid's parents to be dead and the kid finally having to accept going to foster parents with much misery. This is the kid at the beginning who is insisting his parents got on a different shuttle. Instead, all is well. The parents did get onto another shuttle and reunite with their kid.

Several quests in Starfield have no twists. Having every quest with a twist is what everyone else does, and players know what to expect. Not having a twist with every quest leaves players unsure if there's going to be one.

Players who want the same 'ole-same 'ole will be disappointed when some quests are exactly as advertised, even though that, itself, is a twist on the genre.

I think it was just supposed to be a fun quest that wasn't meant to be taken serioisly...

Yeah, they are called the amish, and there are still huge communitys in places like ohio and pennsylvania.

And despite what you think, they're not that odd or weird, just different.

As an appalachian, I can tell you, mainstream is "different", as in its more individualistic versus collectivist. Its also strange growing up connected to nature, seeing the spiritual side of life, knowing that every day should be a miracle that we should be saying thanks to something for.

And then try to go mainstream, and its all about material wealth and profit and ♥♥♥♥ the earth and its people. Spiritualism is just another one of those dumb things like natural medicines, which come on, arent most modern medicines derived from natural derivatives, hilarious stuff people are so dumb sometimes.

Its soul splitting, literally. Then my own personal experiences on top of it.

Im definitely one of those "weirdos" your talking about.

I think the quest is fun, i like it.

This was the last quest i had on my list, no more activities, quests, nothing more, homestead was the last thing i had to do in the game, and i could see, or not see, bethesda DNA there... not just there, but in 90% of the quests.

I just think homestead is the perfect example on how they lose this touch... you give 20k for the girl but nothing change she continue there, you put the costume and nothing, you take the sauce and nothing... I think i got a conversation about the monster later, but just that.

Yeah, nah, after reading what you think should have happened, I'm glad BGS wrote the quests on Homestead. There was absolutely no need to beat that dead horse. It was a mild joke, no more or less.
