SteamDeck Compatibility for Starfield
So the store page still says the steam deck is not compatible with this game and is unplayable.

I just want to let everyone know here that I have been playing this game on my steam deck since launch. The game looks great, great frame rates and honestly it feels like I am playing on a computer.

The way I play it is on a monitor/4K TV with a mouse and keyboard. Once you figure out how to get the mouse working, you are golden. When the game starts, just slide your finger over the touch screen, hold, and lift up. You should see a mouse cursor letting you know that you can play with mouse and keyboard.

As I said, the graphics and sound and framerate is that of a steamdeck compatible game.

You know what is NOT Steamdeck verified but is labeled as such? Baldur's Gate 3. That game is so janky and ugly on the steamdeck, even when playing on a monitor.

Starfield is incredible. How? I have no idea but the game DOES work on the deck. Period.

Let me know if you had success or trouble with this. I'll see if I can put something together more in depth.

This is quality bait right here.

It's not bait. I've been playing starfield on my steamdeck for like 100 something hours.

I seen lots of reddit posts about the game not working and I just want to make sure that folks know it does in fact work and work well.

Nah. Just open your browser and navigate to protondb.com and bookmark it.

I dont think I'm using Proton. My settings are on medium except for shadows. Because shadows.

I just saw, 192 hours in game on the deck.

Any other deck users play starfield?

Bro. You're on SteamDeck. You are 100% using Proton.

The game barely runs on the Series X. 30 FPS. This bait thread is gold tho. Runs great on the Steam deck

It runs fairly decently on steam deck if you don't mind a mix of low and medium settings and a resolution scale of about 67%. It will usually be fairly stable at 30fps. Large premade cities will now always get 30fps. This will not compare well to my desktop pc with 13700K and RTX3080 at roughly 60fps at 4k ultra but that's still decent for gaming on the go. It will drain battery hard tho.

Edit: reading op again. You wont get 4k on steam deck. 😅

Well it runs at the resolution of my 65 inch 4k TV so.... Just saying. That little monster has more under its hood that some gaming pcs.

Anyways, as long as my post helps at least one person, this was worth it.

I've played on my Deck. It runs pretty well on lower settings, surprisingly. My problem with it is the screen being so small that you can't see the mobs you're shooting at more than 20 or 30 meters away if they're in cover. And even in the open, further away, they're just dots. Other than that, yeah, it runs.

The best part is that Baldurs Gate 3 is verified for Deck and has a better chance working on a 4k tv on the damn thing than Starfield.

That's the cherry on top of the bait.

Yeah been playing Starfield essentially exclusively on my Deck. Runs on Medium settings locked at 30 fps with FSR. Looks and runs great. Only issue is the font is a little blurry and hard to read when you open the galaxy map. Only issue so far

I know someone who use the steamdeck combined with these: https://www.viture.com/store?pid=8346139525401

It is an interesting thought to invest in, claims they get great performance from Starfield with the combination.
