How many copies of Starfield has actually been sold versus gotten for free (Gamepass)?
This is sad:

https://imgur.com/a/auZyDhW

At the moment the game has less than 40,000 players. It's being beaten by Unturned, Rust, TF2, War Thunder, and ARK survival evolved. Just how many people have actually bought Starfield?

No, it's 39k active users, not 649k. Your website is wrong. Deal with it.

Now you're just being daft ;)

*Sigh* lmao, alright, you just believe whatever website tells you the biggest number so you don't have to think that your game is a failure.

Unfortunately 2 hours wasn't enough to make up my mind + copium that a triple A studio could make a good game. So I was stuck with it and couldn't refund. 72 hours later and I finished the garbage heap of this game. Sadge.

The better question is how many has refunded it. The first early access week impacted sales brutally.

I’d say around a million copies on steam that were also kept?
Oh yeah, over $200 million in sales in that early access week is brutal.

Get real, cupcake.

No matter how many times ya’ll keep saying it over and over, this belief that a majority of people who bought it early refunded it is in your heads.

The game peaked around 300k

over a week ago they said they sold over 10 million copies, You are looking at steam only player counts not xbox also.

Why do people constantly mix up 10 million players with 10 million copies sold?

It's on purpose. If you notice, no one is trying to argue the thread argument about how many of those players are actually paid. Instead, it's personal attacks, cope, showing random websites with active player counts that are 19x higher then steams...

They wanna believe so badly that all or most of those 10 million is paid when the player count of paid users shows it being closer to 60-80+% being on gamepass

'It's Monday everybody is sleeping or working of course it has little players!'

Meanwhile the top 18 games with most current people playing on Steamdb have 3.1 million people combined.

Starfield is not good enough to grab attention away from those other games apparently.

You can also literally save at any point in Starfield. It would be understandable if you didn't want to play a game where you gotta put in say an hour if you have 10-30 minutes but Starfield can be played in 10 minute intervals.

It's a bunch of sad cope

Microsoft literally said that they are okay on losing money on this game. So yeah even they know the game is not gonna sell. It there to promote game pass.

Where did the 200 million from sales even came from? It was the production cost, it didn’t make anywhere near that in sales

It comes from estimations on premium sales. There's no valid evidence, it's fanboy dreams.

And starfield cost over $400 million to make

I did a breakdown in a previous thread:

Read the sidenotes on the bottom for some explanations about the 70/30 cut, the split of Gamepass subscribers etc.

Based on VGinsights:
2.9 million Steam copies sold:
2.000.000 x $70 edition: 140.000.000 x 0.75(Steam cut) = 105.000.000
900.000 x $100 edition: 90.000.000 x 0.75(Steam cut) = 67.500.000
3.5 million NEW Gamepass subscribers x $10: 35.000.000
3.6 million EXISTING Gamepass subscribers: 0 earnings.
1 million of EARLY ACCESS Gamepass $35: 35.000.000

Total: 242.5 million

Starfield's budget was set to $200 million 7 years back, but with COVID, WAR and feature creep the budget is guessed at $400+ million.

$400m - $242.5m = 157.500.000 loss.

So based on these numbers they haven't sold enough to earn back what they budgeted on this game and the majority of the people that would buy this game already bought it or played it on Gamepass.

Side notes:
The 70/30 percentage of regular vs premium edition is a guess.

The 3.5 million NEW Gamepass subscribers is just a random number. In reality it's probably lower considering there was already 30 million Gamepass subscribers.

The actual earnings is probably give or take +-50 million.

Earnings from NEW Gamepass subscribers also depends heavily on how long they remain subscribed after being lured in by Starfield, the majority cancels their subscription after a single month just to play an AAA-title for peanuts. There will also be a bunch of people that came for Starfield, got bored with it quick, uninstalled it but remained for other games. While that is still 'earnings' it's a bit crude to say Starfield 'earned it'.

Obviously there's other costs as well to consider, such as support, marketing, after-care(updates) etc etc. but it's difficult to name a number based on that.

That was detailed, thanks

All of those are games with online componnents, can't really compare the player numbers to a single player only game a month+ after its release. Many of the early players of starfield have finished the game and moved on within the first week or 2. I mean there is nothing in Starfield that really grips anyone to keep playing due to the poor lore, the boring world and npcs, the poor writing etc, and the fact there just isin't really anything intersting to do in the game. You can't even really go exploring like you could in a fallout or elder scrolls game because there is nothing out there on those planets to find.

Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media (including Bethesda) for $7.5 billion, just to block Sony from making another deal with Bethesda to make Starfield a PS5 exclusive (like Deathspiral, and Ghostwire). Obviously Microsoft is not going to recuperate $7.5 billion with Starfield (and Xbox/gamepass) sales but you're talking pocketmoney for Ms really.
MaxPrimal 9 OCT 2023 a las 5:48 a. m.
being a single player game it doesn't effect you in the slightest.
Zugs 9 OCT 2023 a las 5:51 a. m.
And you are seeing the real score after the removal of all the refunding scores. This game is a 6/10 and a WOKE joke on top of that.

I suspect a big sales burst when the ck comes out. I played the game on gamepass as I already had a sub for it, but I might buy it on steam if modders can somehow fix a decent amount of the games issues, like making exploration and such worthwhile, maybe improving the combat as while the combat is not bad persay, its not really good either. Its just mid, somehow they copied fallout 4's gunplay and mod system for weapons and somehow made it LESS fun than it was in fallout 4.
