Housing worth the credits?
So I just got the first apartment in the Well on New Atlantis, I am not seeing the appeal. I can put down some crafting stations (if I carry the materials in). a bed, then the rest seems clutter. I can put the small storage boxes plus equipment displays but the main reason I could see for it, storage, doesn't seem to be there. I get it is the first starter home but since I can use the lodge or the cargo hold on my ship which with some work I can kit out with the habitats that will give me all the crafting benches. I am questioning why to even bother with housing in the cities based on what you get for the credits plus the leg work to get permission to even have them.

There is zero point in city housing. You are far better off spending creds on your ship. Even after I have upgraded the ship and have over a million credit I haven't bought property.

Largely immersion/roleplay, I think. If you enjoy housing in other Bethesda games, you'll probably enjoy it here; if not, then probably not.

That being said, if you want the Well Rested bonus from taking a nap, and you don't want to have to sit through loading screens to get back to the Lodge, it can be nice to have a few places scattered around where you can hop in bed for an hour or two. I got the smaller home in Akila City for that reason, since I'm working through the Freestar quests.

Sure, you can always take a nap on your ship instead. But right now, I have two crew members + Sam and his daughter, and every time I take a nap on the ship, when I wake up they are all huddled around me and it's creepy AF.

Currently, houses are just trophies to hold trophies.

Aside from the above they're right, no real need. Upgrade your ship. Ignore outposts for now as well. Feels like they will be adding in all that at some point in the future...because the game seems incomplete in that area.

Other than roleplaying, no, You can had starship and outpost doing that, but....much more useful after max out everything after new game plus 10 time or something like that in effect.

the lodge is all you need, it's had unlimited storage, and only place that had unlimited storage

If you like doing missions you can have a regular mission terminal and a constellation mission terminal right next to each other so you don't have to run back and forth to check both.

Due to the lack of fast travel to them, they aren't particularly useful.

I really wanted to like the well apartment. But between the inconvenience of visiting it and all the droning 'crowd' noise from outside its never somewhere I want to spend any time at.

No, now, outposts can be a lot of fun. Although, again, obviously ymmv in terms of what you personally find fun. But I've been having a blast building idyllic glass hideaways in the most picturesque locations I can find.

Mining resources? Meh. Vacation simulator? Here for it.

It can help to have a place in town to sleep for free, clear bounties (for governments other than the local one) and store things, but you can also get all of that with an outpost except for the bed-in-town, which can be on your ship.

You can get arguable the best house for free as part of the Vanguard quest. The most expensive house (the Sky Suite in Neon) on the otvwr hand is totally not worth its price tag: too small with barely enough space to put down a bedroom in it. Nice cyberpunk balcony tho.

It's a game after all, Sleeping on the floor and fluffy beds are the same.
I am also neglecting the house I received as a class one citizen.

Metaphorically

And for people like myself

Literally

There aren't fast travel points to player houses except the one from the dream home trait. But the penthouse from the end of the vanguard questline is very near the residential area of New Atlantis fast travel point. Just fast travel to residential and run over to the tower. However there's no fast way to the one in the well. One use there is if you have contraband from running POIs on Jemesen, or the planet New Atlantis is on, and you need to sleep to recharge the money of the trade authority in the well, you can sleep in your house there.

better off just upgrade your ship, add armory in it and captains quarter

I just realised something that would make the houses not completely worthless. If I could build mission boards for every faction in my apartment, I could fast travel there, get a heap of missions, do the missions, fast travel right back.

Somewhat efficient cred/XP farm without resorting to soul destroying crafting farms.
