What are the ways to get a bounty?

I just finished the Vanguard mission where you learn about the origin of Terrormorphs, and upon returning to Jemison discovered that I had a bounty of 350 credits on me. Oops.

I have no idea how I got that bounty. I didn't steal anything (recently) nor shoot down any ships.

Would accidentally hitting one of the NPC's that accompany you on the quest with friendly fire cause a bounty? I may have used a few AoE shotgun blasts in the final battle of that mission.

I randomly get bounties on me for no reason. I think it is trying to force the one quest. I was working on outposts, no bounty as I check often because of this. When I was done with securing a rare element, I checked again and had a 350 bounty. It is either buggy or they really want that quest done.

I've already completed the quest you are talking about, @OMG, so it has nothing to do with that (at least in my case).

BTW, it's one of the best quest chains in the game (imo), so worth your time to do it.

There's a locked weapon case in the armory. I got a bounty by digipicking it. You might have picked up something in the armory you shouldn't have.

...ooops, I took everything there that wasn't nailed down. I also took the nails.

Nothing was flagged as "stolen" though. I use StarUI, so that sort of stuff is an entirely different color for the pick-up window. Ah well, that's probably what it was.
