Outpost buildings are pointless!
Scanning booster: Nope, still requires me to walk up to everything face to face to scan. -_-

Transfer container: This thing does what exactly? Have found no need for it..

Landing pads: One does nothing unless you're in a tiny ass ship perhaps, haven't been able to land on it yet. The other is a gigantic waste of space with a ship builder that is COMPLETELY pointless unless you're decked out with creds and piloting perks.

Now it's up to modders to fix this agonizingly abandoned cashgrab in a years time when Bethesda is confident their latest creation kit isn't going to crash every 2 seconds and finally release it. ;(

The entire game is a loose translation of Fallout 4 with the addition of "American Civil War" as a theme. Akila IS Diamond City, right down to the last square inch in terms of layout and structure. The reveal video shows the same view as the F4 reveal.

They get major points for recycling effective designs, but this is ridiculous...

I made a singular outpost and have never once been back to it. (It produces Chlorine...)
Gawd help me if I have to invest any time/thought into this mechanic. Just like Fallout 4 settlements... a weird "anti-fun" element injected into another game.

It counts as scanning a creature if you just kill it though, so there's no point in that.

I set up a mineral extractor and power supply when just messing around, but soon after approximately a bazillion hostile spacers appeared and burned them to ashes...Seems as if it *could* be fun and beneficial, but it appears to be extremely difficult...

And of course Place Everywhere because the whole placement system for small items and furniture is a total fail.
I would gladly pay for a DLC that an NPC will help build it for you. I'm having nightmares from Fallout 4 settlements.

I love my outposts, easy XP and credits when I want a change up from other game play. Also helps with modding my gear and weapons.

With that said they are a bit janky and take some time to get setup right. But once you get the basics down they add another layer to this sandbox.

They did hire the person that made one of the best placement/decorator mods for Fallout4.
Apparently they didn't let her do any work on Starfield...

Can we also have a grid for building in the oupost? Just setting up solar panels in random spots and not being able to align anything is rather annoying. Or just trying to put any inside your output where you want it and what angle...

Are you using the 'Overhead' build mode? That snaps more aggressively than the FPS view building.

Its pretty stupid they took away the dismantle function for crap you don't want

It has SO MANY different options for crafted materials and theres 3 layers of fabrication machines on top of that... just impossible to manage all the resources.

Pretty sure the idea is to set up settlements on a bunch of different worlds and then link them together so they all can produce materials you need and then transfer to a central manufacturing settlement, or distribute manufacturing around the network.

Bingo!

Specialization!
I just view outposts as optional homes we can place on any planet we want. That's their purpose for me. We can also instead get the prefab homes in the games' various cities if we'd prefer that.

They do have other functions as well, but those aren't strictly necessary and don't confer some massive advantage necessarily, unless you intend to set up a huge crafting network basically, which is definitely a thing you can pursue. It's all just depending on how you want to play. Like many things, they're just options.

I'm gradually working towards building a modest homestead on a planet just to do it, as part of my "life as an independent merc" roleplaying lol.

Yeah I have that but I also have 30 large storage crates if not more and there's random resources i haven't even seen yet that I need.

You have to craft x to craft y to craft z

Just overly complicated.

Building is often optional as opposed to a 'must do' in many games.

NMS? Absolutely no need to build bases planetside, yet many people find building bases to be the major draw of that game.

Star Citizen? Elite Dangerous? You can't even build bases in either of these games.

Base building has a purpose in Starfield as pointed out by @Eight-Six, but not everyone wants or needs too. That does not make it bad, just optional.

Good thing you don't have to build at all if its not your thing.
