Push "L" for missions.
Select that 1st Vanguard mission.
Then set destination.
Then fast travel.
You can fast travel to planets you haven't been to yet. And you don't need to use your grav jump except to get to other star systems.
To get to another planet in your star system, pause the game, and open your local starmap. Back out (B button on an Xbox controller) to the star system view. Highlight the planet you want to travel to (doesn't have to be one you've already been to,) set course (x button) then travel (hold x button.)
To get to another star system, same process. Just back out even further to the wider field map of different star systems accessible to you, highlight the other star system you want to go to, set course, then hold X to jump. If you can't jump, you need to pick a more close by star system due to the limitations of your grav jump drive's range/fuel. Or upgrade your range/fuel.
You can also do this a little bit more immersively in space. If you're already in space in your ship, you can turn on your scanner, mouse over the star systems you can see (if you have a quest marker on them this may make them easier to spot) and then choose jump, and you'll see the grav jump animation play.
1, 2, 3, 4 - check. After I set route the screen moves over to show me Tau Cetii - but when "set destination" lights up as available, it keeps saying "fast travel is not available."
Ok; I'll give this a shot. Thanks.
I had this 'cannot travel to x' 2-3 times and was able to easily solve this, since it showed me on the galaxy map the unavailable destination route lines from one star system to the next.
By only going one or two 'hop points' back, to a previous star system, from my starting point, I could travel there and from there to the next (undiscovered) point.
It just takes a few more jumps. But you will get there.
What I do not get is the game showing me 'fuel consumption' for hyperjumps. It is not like, I will have to 'refuel' at the next space station or planet hanger.
Usually it will tell you why you can't fast travel. Either your grav jump doesn't have any power, you're in a place like a cave that you have to leave first, you're in combat, or you haven't visited all the systems on the path (in which case you have to jump to a closer system first then jump again from there).
If you haven't been there yet you can't fast travel. Sometimes the main story also prevents you from travelling other places. On PC I believe the difference between fast travel and grav jump, is fast travel you select and click on mouse, while grav jump you select the system and then press X. As long as you are in right screen, it will show different keys you can press.
I found the system a bit weird at first.
Also I think I missed some initial explonation on how to grav jump after I liftoff from Kreet, because I was instantly attacked by Va'ruun when leaving Kreet. I never saw any explonation how or why to adjust the power level to grav drive.
The other explonation probably should cover it. Basically you grav jump to other systems from the starmap that shows different star systems. You can't jump from cockpit view.
I believe the fuel is partially remaining of the older system they had in developement. They left with this torso of the older system where you could actually run out of fuel.
No explanation, just "not available." I've taken off from Jemison and am in orbit. I can't even fly to another planet in the same system. Grav has power, no combat, and Jemison is the only planet I've been to so far. I get no lines at all when I go to the route planning.
No lines show up for anything. Very confusing. Just a constant "no fast travel" message.
No route lines whatsoever, for any system. I can't even get to systems that are closer than Tau Cetii.
Does it? I assume the "AU" designation means "astronomical units." When I hover over Tau Cetii, it shows a number followed by "AU" so I assume it's showing me the distance - but it never changes. Even if I'm at full throttle and use boost, nothing seems to change.
Also, when I mouse over the target, there is no jump option.
Until you do this I believe the Frontier is locked down for traveling anywhere.
I haven't made any adjustments to the ship I got at the beginning. But I'll check out the inventory and see if that's the problem.
