Controller stops fully functioning when left idle

Title basically
To add some more info when i leave the game paused or in the menu to step away for a moment when i come back i notice that all the button prompts have changed to keyboard keys while the controller still kinda works the right thumb stick doesn't respond in the game world and acts as the mouse cursor in the menus

Has anyone else encountered this issue or know of a fix for it as currently the only way i get full controller functionality is completely restarting the game

Sounds almost like a specific setting with the controller. I have one that does that, it idles out way too fast. What are you using, and can you adjust it's settings?

its a PowerA wired xbox controller

I just had my right stick drop out (everything else worked) after going into the menu on a wireless Series controller. Only game restart fixed it. It's a bug.

This is the only real bug I've encountered in 45 hours so far and it only happened twice. Hit ESC and then start using the controller again. Seems to be some kind of polling issue where the game "forgets" the controller exists and is only "reminded" when you cause it to dynamically switch to kb and back to controller.

i'm not having that issue with mine, i get the occasional drifting, which is wear and tear caused usually. i'm hard on controllers.

does the light go out? aka turn itself off?
have you tried unplugging it for a second and plugging it back in(back of controller) instead of relogging the game?
have you tried another cable or port?
have you changed anything in windows when it comes to them or steam?

i'll try that next time it happens
and to answer the other person yes i unplugged and reconnected it and it still wouldn't full function

Same issue with an Elite2, I can exit and reload and it works again. Not a major issue in the grand scheme of things.

I have the same issue with an xbox controller I just pop out the batteries and put them back in. It is a little annoying but nothing major.
