Planet survey
So, I have to ask, how the **** do you fully survey a planet? My max so far is 88% and I still have 2 question marks while I have the scanner open.

I googled and it said I should look for 2 markers while the scanner is open....but all I'm getting is 1 undiscovered base (which is a reasearch base cause I went there before but I brought a quest person there and they ran away and disappeared so I reloaded =)

This planet doesn't have flora or fauna btw so I thought it would be even easier....but so far, no luck

I did one of these quests as well, barren planet just like yours. It seems like, once you scan from space, you have to land and do a hand scan of every resource type detected. You just have to find one node of each, and it will mark complete. Once you've scanned a type of node, the E button turns into "show resources" instead of "scan."

Took me a while to figure it out but just find nodes and ACTIVATE on them while using the hand scanner. You have a list of what's missing on the left of the scanner overlay, it will tell you what you're missing. Sometimes you're missing 1 or 2 and they just happen to be rare, keep looking.

Scanning animals and plants multiple times for credit is very painful. If they could have learned ONE THING from NMS, it was "scan the fauna and flora ONCE" and you're done

Well on my cold and barren planet it said I had done all 4 resources but then I had to "traits" left but the planet doesn't show any.

I managed to get the planet you have to check out for the Vanguards fully, which took forever with getting the traits and flora and fauna...

But yeah, went back to the barren planet after and it's still only going to 88% =p

(it's in the same system as Atlantis btw)

Also can’t complete my planet, 2 hours. Biome says 88% complete. The creature or whatever is missing from planet. Pretty annoying. Multiple people having this issue.

A lot of this type of stuff will be made easier buy levelling up the Surveyor skill.

Thanks for your screenshot, I am on the exact same planet and missing that fish. I keep landing on Swamp (Coast) which has 88% left but can never find water. Glad you found it after 3 hours I must've spent almost the same.

Update: After around 10 landings I finally found the ocean with the fish and completed the survey. Seems like a pretty major bug considering you can hear loud waves while running for miles without ever finding the ocean. Think I just got lucky.

Is there something you have to do to register the flora and fauna? I point the scanner right at them, get a sample, and nothing ever registers on the survey. What am i missing?

You have to press the key/button when already in Scanner mode to Scan them. It also requires scanning multiple plants of the same type, each scan only gives partial credit.

So the steps are:
  1. Enter scanner mode
  2. Center plant or creature in view finder (and be close enough to it)
  3. Press the button/key to actually scan (For me it's the "E" key)
  4. (For Flora) Repeat as needed until you get it to 100%

I am also stuck. do I have to find the same thing multiple times? or find all the natural structures that the system doesn't log?

That looks complete to me, did you also scan the planet from Orbit, from your starship? Maybe that's what you missed.

Land at a site, pull up your scanner and see how many things it tells you that you still need to find. If the biome you're currently in on the planet is 100% (that is you've found all the flora/fauna in that area) then go back to the map, pick a new landing site in a new biome that isn't 100% and go explore that.

Finding elements can be a bit sneaky, I found a planet where I could only find certain things in caves so make sure you check those if those are what you're missing. Oh a second sneaky thing is Oceans, these can have fauna in also but you can't land in them, so find a coastal area and run along the coast to complete.

Those question marks, you have to go to Natural points of interest and sometimes they have an Unexplored Geograghical Feature. Then you have to scan between 1-3 things at different locations at or around the site. In case you haven't discovered this yet, you can scan points of interest with your scanner to see what type it is. If it says Natural, or Life Signs, it might be an Unexplored Feature.
