Pistols will once again vanish when holstered
In some of the earliest footage of the game, you see a character walking, unarmed, and then an alien creature appears, and this character aims to fire at it. The pistol in hand appears from thin air, just like in Fallout 4.

This isn't an "early build" issue. This will be in the final product because they've reused assets from F4 and made zero attempt to improve it. The best they seem to have been capable of doing is allow us to stow a single weapon on our pack (there might've been shots of two weapons there but I cant remember).

16x the detail, but the exact same vanishing pistols from eight years (probably more given dev time) ago. We can't even get a pistol holster for space suits? Or just a spot where pistols attach to our suit (like the rifles do) so we can see them? Nothing at all?

So if you want to build a character whose uses pistols as their main weapon, you get to enjoy the vanishing act, but everyone who chooses long guns gets a visible holster spot. All these gorgeously detailed immersive space suits and clothing and modular guns and then the wet fart of disappearing pistols.

If I'm wrong about pistols disappearing when "holstered" I will come back here and admit I was wrong and then buy a random person a copy of Starfield.

Really? I mean really? The players inventory acts like a magical bag of holding and what you care about is that their gun disappears when they holster it? Okay.

Regardless, though, I'm still happy even to get visibly back-holstered weapons as we do in this one.
...after previous games, not even that was a given.

Sounds like you appreciated that mod (assuming talking FO4...I did appreciated it also, author's a nice guy too), so why the subtle dig/jab? <confused>

If that really is the case, it is a non-issue considering there is a mod in Fallout 4 literally called "Holstered Weapons" that dynamically allows weapons to be visibly holstered on various parts of your body, including mod added weapons, if that is such and issue for you, then wait for the inevitable mod that will fix it. :steamfacepalm:

You can see in the Starfield direct that weapons are holstered on the back of the player character. Do your research people

Sci-fi is the only arena that gets to "logically" use magic pockets. The old Star Trek: Elite Force games explained rather smoothly that a miniature transporter-like device zapped and stored your inventory in a data storage worn around your belt. It still had limitations, but at least they did add a "beam in" and "beam out" graphic for them. They appeared and vanished like magic, but really it was...science.

They could easily hand-wave it away here with anything similar.

Yub, Bag of Holding totally isn't a fantasy trope, Sci-Fi only. ;)

Someone will mod that in. I remember mods for for FO4 and NV that did that. I think details like that are nice personally, but not worth losing your mind over it.

Unrelated/related:
I’m surprised haven’t seen a dozen+ threads regarding pistol lack of dual-wielding/akimbo.
(unless I missed it, heh)

No pistol in sight, aims at alien, pistol materializes in hand

yeah lets excuse developer laziness and normalize waiting an extra sixth months for someone who paid for the game to add a detail that would take the devs half the time to implement, and then years later when the modder has moved on with their life and the game gets an update the mod breaks and becomes unusable

perfect solution

Cool. It's always annoying having to unequip everything you're carrying when you want to take character screenshots.

Will there be a free camera mode for taking screenshots?
Yeah, the same in every bethesda game. Open the console with ~ then type TFC

Why stop there. Why not complain about how to switching from your pistol to a minigun/rocket launcher/whatever, that you OBVIOUSLY don't have strapped to your back, is almost instantaneous? Shouldn't we have to stop, in the middle of combat, and dig that stuff out of a bag or something?

Its a video game. A single player one at that. Not gonna be a lot of people standing around all "Dang! Look at that big iron on his hip!"
