FO4 doesn't seem to have Steam Workshop, so, likely SF won't either. You can play on gamepass, but, some mods (once they come out) won't work.

I seriously doubt SF will have a Workshop. Likely modding will either be third party (Nexus, et. al.) or in-game like Skyrim SE and Fallout 4. I seriously suggest using a mod manager and the former over the latter. Until/unless, of course, you know what you're doing and are familiar with the mods you're using.

When you buy Starfield on Steam you still have Starfield on Steam without having to pay a recurring price to Steam to access Starfield. This is not true for Gamepass.

There is a slight possibility that on the Game Pass version, you may have difficulty using mods from Nexus Mods for example. Unless the folder is unlocked. I think they may have changed this for some games, but cannot confirm.

Yeah, and also, Gamepass rotates games, forcing you to buy games you want to play anyway. Who wants to take bets on whether or not SF gets pulled come October?

Not for Microsoft owned studio games which Bethesda now is.

Microsoft doesn't remove first party games outside of those with licenses that expire like old Forza games.

Gamepass = Short term rental with no ability to modify game files thus zero possibility of external mods. You stop paying each month you lose access to the game.

Digital Purchase = Long term lease with permissions to modify files or say use a script extender instead of main excutable which allows for stuff like ENBs and advanced mods. Also it allows you to use mods of course. You have access to the game as long as you have access to your steam account. No additional fees (save CC and DLC)

Financially if Starfield is all you are interested in and you plan on racking up hundreds of hours it makes more sense to buy it then pay for months and months of game pass.

So every MS game is steadily available on Gamepass?

Just have to keep paying the sub but if your already constantly using gamepass there no reason to buy the game till modding support happens because on gamepass it's harder to mod it's not impossible just much more annoying so if you already use gamepass just get Starfield on there till there's a good discount on a 3rd party site like greenman or something.

First party games will not be removed AFAIK. Bethesda games being first party should remain on the service indefinitely.

If what matters to you is "present game" and you are not interested in "endgame", GamePass is a great alternative for you to test a series of games that you would never buy. Out of every hundred games I try, I only buy one or two if and when they go on sale at a discount.

Essentially, yes. There are some exceptions, like Forza as mentioned, but basically every game they've released since game pass has started has been available since launch along with a lot of their games that were released before game pass.

Still probably not worth it for me since I think the only MS game I'm looking at this year is Starfield. $180 vs $100...

Indeed if you are weighing it up like that it's sensible.
