I sincerely doubt AutoHDR is better though, it'd be the first time. Maybe just calibrate SK HDR properly? You know how to profile display device and use the grayscale visualization mode (curve should reach bottom-left to top-right and touch the corners exactly) to do this in the widget right?
Might just be my ignorance with the tool, but I can't get the small highlights to get as bright as they did in Auto HDR without over-brightening the whole thing.
For context I'm using an HDR1000 display.
Alright I followed your instructions and it does look better than auto hdr. Thanks for the tips :D

For HDR calibration, first profile your display using SK's HDR control panel (in-game) so that you find the smallest value where the white/grey checkerboard screen is a solid color
Then, go to the Visualization section at the bottom of the HDR widget and pick "Gamma and Grayscale" and adjust peak brightness until the curve from left-to-right meets at the top-right of the grayscale chart.
You're done then (turn visualization mode off). If you want more colors, there's a color slider for that.
SK HDR's a lot better than AutoHDR, so you're better off anyway.
Hi! I know this is an old post, but I recently got an HDR capable monitor and I'm trying to use SpecialK to add HDR to non-HDR capable games, and I'm not finding a lot of detail about properly setting this up. The bit that's not clear to me is "adjust peak brightness until the curve from left-to-right meets at the top-right of the grayscale chart." See my image below; am I correct in thinking I need to adjust the brightness scale slider to make the curve below blend with the background on the far right of the screen? Or as described, should the slider position the right of the curve in the top right corner of the screen?
I'd appreciate a clarification from Kaldaien or anyone that knows how this should be set up.

Thanks very much!!!
I'd suggest using the latest installer.
But effectively, you're not even using 1/5 of your display's range. You want to aim for 1/2 to 2/3.
Also it's probably easier to get assistance on our Discord server, and the related HDR Den Discord server. Lots of experts there.
