Most people play Vampire Savior, but Vampire Hunter is a fantastic game all on it's own. I've been working with the Vampire Savior discord to bring Vampire Hunter more to the light. You should give it a try sometime :)

Vampire Savior absolutely, though Vampire Hunter has some cool stuff with it. Play around, see if you can find communities and have fun with your preferred one!

VHunter2 and VSav2 are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ romhacks that Capcom put out for a quick buck. They're really poor. So, just stick with VSav

Vsav is the competitive game, you can play w.e u want tho see what you like and try to find games. Mostly likely that u gonna end up finding Vsav games tho, cuz most people bought this collection for that and Red Earth (maybe bit for the SF 2 too)

They're not "romhacks" lol. They are alternate roster version. I prefer VS2 roster so thats the best Darkstalkers imo.

In terms of current popularity, VS is the one.

Vampire Savior >> Vampire Savior 2 > Vampire Hunter > Vampire Hunter 2 > Vampire

People play Vampire Savior because it's the last popular arcade game. But Vampire Savior killed the franchise with its radical beginner-unfriendly game system. Personally, Vampire Hunter is the most well-made, beginner-friendly, and the wildest Darkstalkers game. I love VH the most.

This Fighting Collection can support VS2/VH2 very well. We can now match-make multiple Darkstalkers games at once which is a pretty new take. It's making me feel like VS/VS2/VH2 coexisting in the single VS game. We finally have a reason to be fluent in VS2/VH2.

To be honest it depends on who you play and how serious you are about your character's move list.

Felicia for example has a move where she does a divekick. In the 2nd game it does damage twice, once on the way up and then on the way down. In the 3rd game they got rid of it completely.

She also has 2 versions of her ball bounce move. In the 1st game it's a full half circle (back down forward). In the 2nd game it's a much shorter quarter circle (down forward). In the 3rd game they only kept the ball dash and not the bounce.

However in the 3rd game she can bounce off of walls, people's heads, and has a fake grab taunt.

Conventional minds will say Vampire Savior because that's what japan plays the most.

However Vampire Hunter is probably the best of the bunch and one of the best FG of all time.
It's also more balanced and contains a more interesting cast.

Just play the Japanese version of the Arcade games, or Japanese Sega Saturn ports.
