Do Bluetooth Controllers connect to the Dock?
I feel like I am missing something, and I apologize if I am just missing something. I am trying to set up my Bluetooth x-box one controller to the dock but cant seem to do it? Do controllers connect through the dock?

To the dock, no. Those connect directly to the Deck. Open the Bluetooth settings page.

I knew that controllers can connect to the deck directly, then is the only point of the dock to connect it to the TV? I still feel like I am missing something? What does it have an ethernet port and three usb ports?

Well, yeah, you get USB ports for hardware without BT, Ethernet & monitor/TV outputs, as well as power input.

Yes your xbox controllers connect to steam deck directly. I think what u missing is with Dock you can come up, put deck in hub, where it will charge. Display on your big screen and u can play game on your xbox controller with a mate / partner on couch co-op and just unwind whilst it charge. Some ppl put external drive onto hub where they can play other games whilst in dock state / have keyboard + mouse connected.

Okay then how do you connect directly to the dock?
Can someone explain to me how I can get my Xbox controller not to have 1000ms input lag? This and having really bad controller issues are keeping me from loving the steam deck. When I bought it I expected Nintendo switch level of controller flexibility. I don’t even get PC controller flexibility with the deck. Lag is bad, if I switch from docked to deck mode, it’s even worse. Fix this please.

What do you mean by "directly to the dock"? The dock is unusable without a PC anyway (which can be the Deck), how does it matter what the gamepad is connected to, as long as it is connected? Anyway, if you want to route your gamepad connection through the dock (let's say for sane reasons), then don't use BT. The Deck got the BT tranciever built-in so don't use it. Instead, plug that USB dongle that you have for your gamepad into the dock. That way, the gamepad will connect to the dongle, the dongle to the dock and the dock will connect it then to the Deck. Ultimately, that gamepad will still be connected to the Deck (how else are you gonna to control games running on Deck) but through the dock.

How are you connecting it, for starters? BT or dongle?

Thank you for your answer but I guess I just don’t see the point in the dock anymore lol if it doesn’t the deck into to a “steam console”

But that's what it is! The Deck AND A DOCK, together form a Steam console. One that your TV plugs into, one which your gamepads connect to, one with a power input so you can play from your couch on your TV.

How on earth is that not a Steam console?

I don't understand what you expected to be capable of doing that you can't do?

The point of a dock is to make it possible to connect the Deck to external devices that use HDMI / DisplayPort / ethernet / USB-A connections. It doesn't need to provide a Bluetooth adapter because the Deck already has integrated BT.

Do the Nintendo Switch controllers connect directly to the Nintendo Switch dock?

No. They connect directly to the Nintendo Switch.

The Deck works exactly the same way. The dock is there to hook your Deck up to the TV and provide some additional ports. That's it.

I have an Xbox Series X controller. No dongle necessary. It is how I connect it to my current PC (no input lag). I only experience this when I connect it to my docked Deck.

Then what is the point of having three usb ports then???

So you can plug in devices that use USB-A. That includes things like keyboards, mice, wired gamepads, external hard drives, and so on.

There is nothing magical about docks (either the Switch's or the Deck's); they're not self-contained PCs that can function on their own. All they do is break a USB-C connection out into multiple other types of connections.

Plugging in three USB devices obviously???

The dock is a fancy piece of plastic that allows you to connect multiple physical devices THROUGH THE USB-C PORT on the Deck and have them all working in tandem. It doesn't have any computing/operating power on it's own. It does not have or need Bluetooth/Wifi etc. IT ONLY SUPPLIES WHAT THE DECK DOES NOT ALREADY HAVE.
