Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Unsupported games vent
Listen, the Steam Deck is cool and all (even though I haven't used it a lot recently), and some of the games you can play on it are great. And there's plenty others that I would also like to play also... But the only problem is, not ALL the games I want to play are playable on the Steam Deck. I mean, you have Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic 4 Episode 2 and Haydee 1 which are all Steam Deck supported, but not Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic 4 Episode 1 or Haydee 2?

I also tried to get Dragon Ball FighterZ to get it playable for the Steam Deck (after seeing a few tutorials on how to do it), and yet, nothing. Then again I already own two copies of the game on my PS5 and Switch. And I'm sure there is a way to get unsupported games to play on Steam Deck, but I don't really know how that'll work, especially after the last time I tried it with FighterZ.

Regardless, I really do hope that Valve or whoever fixes this solution in future and we can see more games get supported soon. If they do, I might actually use my Steam Deck a lot more because of it. Because I really do love this console, but if half of the games here on Steam are barely playable on it, then what's the point? And no, I am not installing Steam on my laptop because IDK if I'll even have enough space for it, or buying a gaming PC because they're too expensive.

The "whoever" is the game devs, and the only reason they'll do it is if enough people buy a Deck and request that support from them that they feel it's worth putting in the effort.

In the meantime Valve make games work despite the game devs' indifference through Proton. But then some game devs take a game that was working in Proton and break it. Without the game devs actively choosing not to do that, we get best-effort from Valve.

Note that a game not having a Verified rating doesn't mean that it doesn't work: Steam has about 100,000 games and only a fraction of them have been tested to see if they work - Valve prioritise testing new and popular games.
