Steam Deck
Racing wheel support (Logitech g923)
I've done some reading on adding racing wheel support to steam os. It's hacky and hit-or-miss. I understand that newer versions of the linux kernel have much improved support (eg HID patches), but I don't expect Valve to upgrade the kernel just for a feature like that since it would probably cause more problems in the system than it solves.

I'd like to know if anyone here has managed to script logitech wheel installation and configuration for their racing wheel so they don't have to manually reconfigure after every SteamOS update. If not, any suggestions on how to make this possible? Could this be done with a simple bash script?

Depending on how new a kernel you need, SteamOS 3.5 might have it anyway. It's said to have a new version of the kernel, but I don't know which version.
Steam OS 3.4.6 is only running kernel 5.13. The patch I saw for the Xbox g923 was for 6.x kernels. So unless Valve moves Steam OS to a 6.x kernel, I doubt we'll see racing wheel support. Too bad.
Just read a Reddit post by someone on preview branch SteamOS 3.5. They're saying it's running a 6.1 kernel. So there's still hope!
Just an update. Since Steam OS 3.5.5, I ran oversteer and was able to use the wheel in games, but without ffb. I'm in the process of reinstalling new-lg4ff to see if that makes the difference.

My guess from this initial observation is that there is limited g923ps support in the kernel, but for ffb, new-lg4ff still needs to be added.
Hi Austin, just wondering if it made a difference. I’m interested to use the g923 with my steam deck. Thanks.
Anyone got any updates on this?

I'm really keen to get a G923 (Xbox version probably) to use with my Steam Deck. But it kind of depends on Force Feed Back working...

[~]Hey @austen - you didn't mention if you have the PS or Xbox version of the G923. It seemed like the lg4ff was more aimed at the PS versions of the wheel - but I could be wrong.[/~]
Never mind - noticed the g923ps reference.

Anyone know if the xbox version of the g923 works with force feedback on the Deck?

Same question here, does anyone have any news about this point?
I was testing g923 xbox (not on Steamdeck, but Kubuntu with 6.8 kernel), and the wheel works but the FFB is broken. I'm not able to fix this. I bet the same situation is on Steamdeck. I'm downloading Dirt on my deck and will test it later.

Nope, doesn't work at all :( Probably next month I'll get g29 and let you know.
