Password manager support in game mode

I've noticed there is next to no support for password managers, specifically on game mode. I'm trying to set up FFXIV, but the game, as far as I know, requires password input on every lauch and it's a bit of a pain with a long, generated password.

Good password managers are not fast evolving for a good reason.

I've been using Keepass2 for years, and a quick search shows a fork on flathub. You could try adding it as a non-steam exe.

But switching between window focus is still annoying, in game mode or desktop mode.

I did try KeePassXC just for FFXIV, even though I use Pass as my manager. However the clipboard seems to persist only within the active application as pasting does nothing once you switch over to the game. Really hoping they'll have something for Pass and KeePassXC soon as playing FFXIV right now is very painful.

Through how many hoops people jump just because SE is too lazy to save your password in the login screen.

I'm using Bitwarden as a second "game" (add it as non-steam game) for when I need it, but really annoying that you have to log in every time and the overlay keyboard doesn't have a ctrl key so you either have to hope that you get the option to paste, or add "ctrl v" as a keybinding.

How are you managing to get Bitwarden to run in game mode? I installed it via Discover and added it as a non-Steam game, but attempting to launch it in game mode just results in the Steam loading spinner displaying indefinitely.

Edit: Managed to get it working using AppImageLauncher instead. Unfortunately copy/paste between apps in game mode doesn't work currently.

Im seconding we need copy/paste between "games" ... loging into all those launchers when they are frequently forgoting who I am by mistake or by some security reason timeout is very cumbersome and anoying.

yes please!, but I'd actually like to see the developer of 1Password to support the deck, not valve.
However- it would still be nice if calve would allow me to select an password manager by myself in Gaming-Mode

There are good KeePass2 Linux software out there, and I have used it on my laptop (that runs Ubuntu) for a couple of years.

It is quite easy to use especially when you place the file on a shared folder with your cloud provider, I have used both gdrive and a self hosted NextCloud instance.
(Then you can share that file with your phone/tablett/pc etc etc)

I'm still waiting for my Steam Deck to arrive so I can't test any of this yet, but I'm looking forward to explore this topic, both in game mode and desktop mode.

Bumping. I am having trouble manually typing 20 character long random generated passwords into FF14 launcher when in game mode. A simple clipboard support would be wonderful. Makes me wonder why onscreen keyboard even has paste button. Maybe have a per game toggle setting to enable access to clipboard in game mode?

Turns out copy paste works after all. Here is how I got it working using KeepassXC to login to FF14:
Have KeepassXC added as non-steam game. Launch it. Press steam button and go to library and launch the game, in this case FF14.
In keepass, switch to web browser control scheme, press L2 to right click. Copy your password.
Go back to the game, using L2 as right click, paste your password in to the password field. If steam deck opens virtual keyboard automatically as you try to interact with the password field, close it. The paste button there does nothing.

Yes, my solution to this is to just use XIVLauncher to remember your password. Make sure you've got 2FA set up so that if somebody steals your Deck, they don't have completely unrestricted access to your account.
