For closed source it's kinda the same but not as deep inlook but there's a given trust for that company.
People also wouldn't use the applications If there was an obvious virus/malware and I'm sure that you would hear about it if there was.
Discover is also Flatpaks, these are apps packaged into a sort of container and there is permissions that they get, such as not allowing access to system. For example Firefox would need you to add more permissions to access outside of Downloads.
Doubtful that there will be more options in the store when they have to verify each application and when the current option is literally allowing installation of anything you want that's available.
It would be nice for a store thats provided by valve but I feel like people would blame valve if one of those applications had an issue.
Seems like the safer bet is to provide steam deck as a portable gaming pc with the ability of a desktop than to kit out the desktop .
Fair valve would be blamed but still think it be another safe way for people to not get malware and other malicious stuff onto the deck with valve being another Line of protocol being allowed into there store basically
It gets confirmed into discovery store then requested into valves own store even if they did a few items at a time where they confirm it’s a good item/ product / app and then let it into there own version discovery store and let people feel safer / relieved but also put a warning valve isn’t responsible for anything that doesn’t work
But since they are behind on game verification I just doubt that they would be on top of application verification.
Probably end up with just a discover reskin if anything.
The only addition I'd suggest is having it as a way to install applications in various ways, not just Flatpaks. So it's a store for much more options.
What OP should be asking for, because they're afraid of the open source bogeyman, is for Valve to host their own repository of a limited number of flatpaks, like Fedora does. And configure Discover to use that by default. Except one of the first things that Fedora users do is to switch to using flathub instead of Fedora's repository because Fedora's repository doesn't have the packages they want.
