Battery Charge Limit
Please allow us to set charge limits on the Steam Deck. It'd be nice if we could do it directly from SteamOS, but even just getting it on the BIOS would be a good start. The best would be, ontop of getting an option in the KDE Advanced Power Settings, to also make it into Steam's power settings menu (with FPS limiting etc.)
I plan on using my SteamDeck a lot plugged in, so I don't want to charge it to 100% when doing that.

When you click on "full" in the three dot menu, it says that the percentage after full battery unplug might not be 100% because deck lets it discharge so it doesnt wear out so quickly. maybe it's already in.

Someone who received the Deck confirmed that the feature isn't there yet, and said that Valve Support suggested making a post in this forum ( https://reddit.com/t7z7dq )
I do think (and hope) this is already planned, but as far as I know it isn't implemented yet.
If you have a Deck and want to check, you can go in System Settings -> Power Management -> Advanced Power Settings in the Desktop Mode. It should show the same thing that's in the picture I shared.

(For clarification, yes battery not charging when already full is a good thing, but that's not what I'm asking for. I'm asking for complete control over battery charge, including but not limited to control over the threshold for the battery not charging when already full)

I would also like this.

Here is a screenshot from MSI Dragon Centre's laptop battery health page. I like the way this is laid out: https://imgur.com/a/hpbjaec

I think this would be great for a Steam Deck that is either occasionally unplugged, or is possibly going into storage for a while.

The Deck can and will be used in docked mode, not only for gaming, but also as a working device. So the Deck might be plugged in all the time.

To increase battery life span this will be a great feature.

Being allowed to set battery charge limit is such a nice thing that I'm surprised it is still NOT implemented! :(

Please read my reply about charge *current* limit (a separate setting), it's on the 2nd page.

if it's always plugged in, it will always be near full. At that percentage the current is limited already.

I would also like this.

I want to use the Steam Deck plugged in. But I don`t want the battery to degrade too much by constantly being at 100%.
So having a charge limit is the feature i miss the most right now.

As explained multiple times, the Deck already does this.

Really? Where was it explained? I call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because mine hovers at 100%, and there is no setting that says otherwise. Your build in chip theory is nonsense, that just keeps it from overcharging it doesn't keep it undercharged.

It reduced the charge rate and will cycle the battery as it's on the charger past 100%.

how about past 80%? Nope.

Correct. Because the battery already regulates itself to prolong the life of it and prevent deterioration.
maxRunner 2022년 6월 21일 오후 1시 26분
Yeah, you clearly don't know anything about lithium ion technology.

You mean like how modern devices already do charge throttling at high percents to prolong the life of the battery?

Or that manually setting a charge limit is redundant because of the above and will maybe save and negligible amount of better life?
