I’ve had success with unplugging/replugging the hub, the HDMI cable from the hub, and any charger attached to the hub
To have it working I need a cold boot of the Steam Deck (full shut down, then boot), and I must not plug in power to the hub, then I get HDMI out.
As soon as I plug in power to the hub, HDMI out gets disconnect, and even if I disconnect power again it does not come back. I have to cold boot the Deck again. I guess the USB controller enters a weird state where only a full shutdown helps.
Connecting the hub with working HDMI works both in gaming mode as well as in desktop mode. In gaming mode the internal display gets black and fully switches to the external monitor, in desktop mode I get offered what do to with the external screen (mirroring, extending, etc.)
All other functions of the hub do work (further USB ports, network) no matter if power is connected to the hub or not.
I’m using the jsaux mod case hub. Hdmi works well for the most part as long as no power source is plugged into the dock. When I plug in power the monitor is still technically detected, but no video signal actually goes through.
I have tried different monitors, configurations through the dock, as far as I can tell the only variable causing the issue is having power plugged into the dock. It would be nice to have the power plugged in while docked to a monitor…
EDIT- UPDATE. FIXED. (4 hours after posting this lol)....I was able to get this working using my thunderbolt / type C hub I use for my MacBook Pro and it was working great. Confirmed working on a very old HDMI cable as well as a 2.0 HDMI. Also tested it using 30W charger I use for my iPad and the Original Steam Deck charger. Both work fine. It appears that the dock I bought from amazon was defective AND for whatever reason the Type C to HDMI adapter I have doesn't appear to be compatible with the Deck. Seems the deck is picky about what docks it wants to support. Whats strange is I use that same adapter with my MacBook Pro when I travel and it works with that just fine. I just confirmed it still works as well by connecting to my MacBook....Works great for that.... As strange as it sounds, For anyone having this issue, I would consider either trying a higher quality dock or an adapter that is confirmed working by others. I was banging my head against the wall for months and I was 99% certain it didnt have anything to do with my dock, but looks like I learned something new here.
