So after today, you should be able to update to the latest firmware successfully either via XBox or from the Windows updater.
Current FW is 5.9.2709.0
EDIT: PS5 and PS4 controllers connect without issue.
I use Linux primarily as my OS and don't own an Xbox, luckily I dual boot though but I'm sure there are others like you who are going to be SoL on this.
I'm just curious why the firmware that Microsoft installs to the controller can't be applied through the Steam Deck / Steam? Has Microsoft said no, hell it would be good for them to offload some controller firmware update downloads to your severs.
I'm not sure if you're having a problem or if you're just asking, as far as I know this works fine, I have used the dongle with Xbox 360 controllers and the Steam Deck and it worked fine.
