How do you adjust to flick stick?
I've been using Doom 2016 to help me learn gyro controllers and, despite a few embarrassing deaths, I'm slowly getting the hang of it, to the point that when I played the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, I instinctively tried moving the controller to aim my shots with the sling. There's one hurdle I'm struggling to get over, though, and that's flick stick.

The idea is perfect. You use the gyro for precision aiming and the analog stick to do quick facing movements. The problem is that when I'm not fighting stuff, I prefer to use the analog stick to platform and explore since having the move the console around all the time, even when I'm not in combat, gets a bit exhausting. Flick stick really isn't conducive to slow paced exploration, and it's not like I can just push a button to turn flick stick on and off.

Is there any good advice for adjusting to flick stick?

You don't have to use flick stick to use gyro. Traditional controller controls with additional gyro is perfectly fine.

However, if you specifically want flick stick, you get used to it the same way as anything: lots of practice.

And you probably can switch between flick stick & traditional controls on the fly, or have stick as one and trackpad as another - Steam Input is absurdly configurable.
You can actually push a button to turn flick stick on an of! Make two action sets; one with flick stick, another without, then assign a button to switch between them.
