im so happy to have this. its my main PC now and I have very few complaints.

issues with outputting to a projector thru an hdmi-cat6-hdmi extender
dual screening w/the official valve dock isnt working either.
fl studio 2024 crashes the whole deck after being open a few seconds, recent update caused it, no documentation on a fix yet.
the onscreen keyboard can be buggy sometimes, but its always been that way for me.

this is a VERY SHORT LIST in terms of how critical i can be so valve did good

Because the developers of those games decided to take specific steps to make their games not work on the Deck.

This is completely normal for the steam deck. Prepare to get more games and games from the future becoming bricked. Sadly Valve doesn't care at all about their own hardware platform, I mean having compaitibility revoked after you purchased a functioning game is outright ridiculous, and clearly Valve's fault as well, since they allow those practices in their store.

Imagine sony would suddenly allow PS5 games to not work any longer on their platform... What a joke.

dude, the games do run on steam, just not linux. its a whole different OS than windows and getting programs designed for windows running in linux is already a difficult task. the reason compatibility goes away is because the devs of the game in question released a patch that broke compatibility. a lot of AAA devs dont like linux because it doesnt easily give them access to all your system files either, so anti-cheat is notorious for breaking compatibility. you should be yelling at the devs, not valve. the R&D they are putting into linux is actually ISANE if you knew anything about that cute little penguin.

Game compatibility very limited? What? Last time I checked, the Steam Deck boasts a compatibility library containing 10's of thousands of titles, so your statement is completely incorrect. https://www.steamdeck.com/en/verified
As for performance, I'm currently playing Diablo 4 on my Steam Deck with high settings & 60 fps. it's flawless performance. Everything I've played on my SD performs perfectly, so I dunno where you're coming from with your negative assessment of the Steam Deck but it's not reliable, that's for damned sure.
10's of thousands steam "games". All the llow tier copy pasta indie "games" are running, but more popluar games are not. The more popular a game is, the less likely it is to run on the SD. According to steam's official certification system only 19% of the Top 1000 games in steam are marked as verified. Only 30% are marked as playable. 24% are straight unsupported. So at least every 4th game of the Top 1000 steam games isn't supported on the SD. :eliselaug

I have found "Steam Deck Verified" to be completely useless and most of the time "Unverified" games work perfectly fine. ProtoDB is a lot more accurate since it's based on actual user feedback and there is even a plug-in you can use to implement it into the Steam library. I get that you don't like the Deck experience for whatever reason and that's fine, we all have our own preferences. But to say that it can't run anything other than "low tier indie games" is objectively wrong.

Not even remotely related. In consoles, the manufacturer owns the hardware, the ecosystem, gaming specification, and their own store. They dictate what happens on their platforms and if you don't conform, you don't sell on their platform.

There is no "PC gaming" owner. Every PC gamer does not have the same hardware and PC developers do not design to a single specification. While the Valve store does have the lion-share of users, at the end of the day it's just a store not an ecosystem.

This makes no sense. Are you trying to say that Valve has no control over their store?

That's obviously not what they are saying. They are saying that even if Valve blocks a game, there are other stores that will still sell it on PC.

I don't really care whose fault it is. At the end of the day, many games are not running under Valve's steamos. This is what counts for customers. Not everyone has the time and will to use the steam deck as an experimental platform.

If you actually read the text you quoted you would realize that thiss 100% backed by protondb.

Many games are not running under Windows, so I'm really not sure why you're specifically targeting SteamOS here.

There are a lot of different PCs out there. A basically an infinite number of different hardware and software configurations, and not every game is automatically going to run 100% out of the box on every single configuration. This isn't limited to the Steam Deck. That's just the reality of PC gaming, and for anyone who can't accept that, they should go get themselves a console where their choices are made for them and they don't have to think about it.

This is not true at all. Name ONE game, that is either borked or unsupported for steamOS, which doesn't run on windows. I'm waiting.

Nobody is talking about that, you need to read again. Games which were playable or supported for steamOS suddenly become unsupported, die to shady devs/ pubs rolling out updates that break compatibility (on purpose).

It's Valve's platform, if they can't even guarantee that a playable game you've purchased will be accessible from the deck in the future, then there must be something wrong. This hasn't anything to do with hardware at all.
