Steam Deck

Steam Deck

How durable is steam deck?
Maybe my anxiety is getting to me or the fact that everything i own eventually breaks.
Been having the deck for 2 and a half months now,its my main gaming console now due to pc being 8 years old and shutting down.

So im just wondering can steam deck all of a sudden break? Like joystick falling off or r&l buttons?
Im lightly pressing it all and when in game tells me to press l3 or r3, i keybind it to back buttons out of safety.
And now it seems to me l2 and r2 are little squeaky or maybe that was always a thing.

So at the end of this yapping, i just wanna know will this console work forever?

Nothing works forever.

However, they've had extensive drop tests, official spare parts are available from ifixit, and there's a repair service from Valve.

It would suck if you broke it, but it's unlikely, and it wouldn't be the end of the world.
Don't drop it. It is durable. I even use it for music while I take a shower.

Well it would be end of the world for me because i play it 17 hours a day and if it ends i got literally nothing to do.
Is it easy to repair it by yourself or how does it work exactly in case i gotta know in future?

Which Deck do you have LCD or OLED?

The OLED is easier to repair than the LCD as they took lessons learned from the LCD to improve repairability on the OLED.

Now with that, it really depends on the individual. Some people are good at working on small electronics, some people aren't.

Oh no joke but im treating it nicely with everything i have. Its always in the case when i dont use it or on my bed next to me and making sure it dosent overheat or power cable gets in a weird shape

No reason to worry until something happens. If something happens, look for a local "small electronics" repair shop.

Main concern is cable ofc.

I know a few close by but dunno how well they would work on something like steam deck. Most...regular people dont even know it exists

True but i guess if it breaks i can just order another one online? Like how i do for my phone.
Cable is good so far,i just hope it dosent fry over time like my original phone charger did. Was white cord then it started to turn yellow. Even i knew it was too dangerous to keep using it

Yes, you can buy same charger just like replacing broken parts of the steam deck. That's why Valve is an amazing company. THEY GIVE sh**

Generic phone repair places will have all the tools needed already, and practice from doing similar work. Ifixit has videos of how to replace all the bits. They'd have no trouble.

But you're not going to need them anyway, and you're just getting yourself in a tizzy over nothing.

I sure hope so, i may be overthinking all this but with how much my stuff broke in last few years despite taking good care of them...watch belt four times,a goth ring,pc(tho dusty and old), phones turn on button, headphones mic, mouse
So im just hoping deck dosent follow the same path given it seemed to me buttons started to squeak all of a sudden or im just too tired of today.
Honestly weird its l2 and r2 with how little i use those buttons in games lol
