Vibrant Deck vs OLED
Hey, has anyone used the vibrant deck and could tell me if it's similar to the Steam Deck Oled screen?

Vibrant Deck is no longer longer really a thing. That being said, no an application is not going to turn a LCD screen into an OLED.

SD LCD is much cheaper than SD OLED, if Vibrant Deck improves the screen so much that the difference between it and OLED will be minimal then LCD will be better choice.

It doesn't.

Thanks! So it's better to buy OLED even if it's more expensive!

There's a lot more beneficial to the OLED model than just a nicer screen. It's basically a total overhaul of the device in which not a single component was untouched. Off the top of my head:
  • 50% larger batter with better battery chemistry so it charges quicker.
  • More efficient chip with a die shrink for equal performance at lower power consumption, increasing battery life even more but also allowing it to run cooler and quieter.
  • Higher profile fan that can more more air at lower RPM, making it quieter still.
  • Faster RAM for a small performance increase.
  • More durable design with Torx screws set into metal inserts.
  • Simplified design for better reliability.
  • Upgraded wifi and better Bluetooth.
  • Stronger and more redundant shoulder buttons that are more resistant to drops.
  • More sensitive track pads with much stronger haptics.
  • Better pivot on the d-pad for better responsiveness and improved ability to pull off Street Fighter moves.
There are other, smaller improvements too like the multi-colored LED charging indicator, wake on bluetooth, and nicer feeling thumb sticks. Honestly if the screen was still LCD and all the other improvements were still present, it would still be worth it.

What an amazing answer, thank you!

But two questions:

1. Do some games look worse at 90hz than at 60fps? i mean if in some game you have 60fps it will be 60/60hz but on oled it will be 60/90hz, does it change anything?

2. Is Steam Deck Oled comfortable to hold?

You can adjust the refresh rate of both models - the OLED can simply go higher. If a game is locked at 60 fps for whatever reason you can set the refresh rate to 60 Hz to match if you want.

2. Is Steam Deck Oled comfortable to hold?

They're exactly the same shape and, yes, they're both comfortable to hold.

The OLED is really the one to get unless you really can't afford it. The LCD model isn't bad, but the OLED is better.

You can change the refresh. So if you want to run the game at 60 fps and you're worried about tearing and such, just reduce the refresh to 60. Running it at 60 fps/90 hz doesn't look bad to me though.

Just as comfortable as the LCD. It's slightly lighter than the LCD, so that can make longer play sessions a bit more comfortable. IMO, the Steam Deck is the most comfortable and ergonomic handheld gaming PC on the market.

1. Idk how does it works but I heard many opinions that 40 hz is the new 60 fps and the gamę will works smooth even on 40 fps if you set the screen to 40hz, right?

2. Glad to hear that!

40 hz is a nice compromise when a game can't quite hit 60 fps but you don't want to go all the way down to 30 fps. With the frame rate locked to 40 and the refresh set to 40 (or 80hz with the OLED), it looks and plays great. If you want, you can force a lower frame rate even if the game can technically go higher in order to gain in battery life what you lose in frames. Depending on the game, it might not matter so much that it's not running at 60-90 fps, and by lowering the frame rate you gain lots of battery life. The OLED can get as much as 12 hours of battery on really low-powered games with the right settings.

Yeah. The thing with 40 Hz is that it sounds like it should be barely above 30 Hz and way below 60 Hz, but in terms of frame time (which is the reciprocal of frame rate) it's halfway between 30 Hz and 60 Hz so it feels much smoother than 30. 33.3 ms -> 25 ms -> 16.7 ms.

Frame doubling (running a 40 fps game, say, at 80 Hz - by showing the same frame twice - means that a missed frame is only 12.5 ms late rather than 25 ms late, which again feels smoother. The OLED can do frame tripling for 30 fps at 90 Hz, so a missed frame is 11.1 ms late rather than the 16.7 ms for frame doubling.

You're too smart for me, I don't really understand it, so I have a question, is the human eye able to notice the differences? I've never had SD, I've always played on a 144hz monitor so it's hard for me to visualize it

Why this is 80hz with the OLED?
