Using in bed without overheating concerns?
Sometimes I'd like to use the Deck on my bed without the concern that leaving it on a soft blanket is going to overheat it.

Given that I occasionally like to use it for light tasks on desktop like Internet browsing and chatting, the fans usually don't kick in at all or do so very faintly.

While "turning off the fans and solely relying on thermal throttling" doesn't sound like a particularly great idea, casually using it like a tablet anywhere I please would definitely increase its utility for me.

Have you got any good ideas to tackle this?

Relying on thermal throttling is bad for the health of your SSD and memory card. Just put it on top of a book or something.

Yeah, I don't set my Steam Deck down on any surface that will cover the exhaust holes on the back. That usually isn't an issue since it is raised.\

If I use my Steam Deck in bed, I just put it down on the nightstand if I need to. I wouldn't set it down on the blankets.

Way too scared that I fall asleep and drop the Deck from the bed. Blocking the exhaust is not a good idea. Other replies warn that thermal throttling is bad for the SSD.
Alumium Stands are pretty obiquitus, I have one, 15cm wide, so the Deck can charge on my nightstand.

Get a kickstand (third party) so that you don't block the airvents at the back and you don't need to bother about it overheating.

If you're just watching videos/webbrowsing it should be ok to leave it on a blanket since the vents are slightly raised due to how the ergonomics work but i wouldn't recommend it for long periods of time.

And if you're really cheap just get something like a book or a piece of cardboard to prop up the deck while in bed. A laptop stand might work aswell

Setting it on the soft bed for a minute won't hurt it.

I set my on the nightstand.
