Steam deck first games
Hello, I don't know what games are good to start on Steam deck. I wanted to start with something like Baldurs gate 3, Resident evil 4 remake or tekken 8. The one that attracts me the most is Baldurs gate 3 but from what I have seen it seems to be part Point & click and have a view from above so I don't know if it will be very suitable to play on steam deck as a first game (I never played a D&D type game so I have no idea either)

I pretty much play anything on my Steam Deck that I do on my PC. It is such a great device!

Baulder's Gate 3 doesn't have the best performance. Similar to the Harry Potter game, Deck owners don't care as much about the performance so it's still very high on the "most played on the Deck" list.

There are other RPGs that are good and perform better on the Deck. If you are just looking for a good RPG, there are others. If you are just looking at BG3, then just know the performance isn't awesome but it's doable.

If it supports a controller it's not. If it doesn't, then Steam provides you with a whole pile of tools you can use to convert keyboard and mouse inputs to controller inputs. The only kind of game that might be a struggle is some complicated sim that utilizes all the keys on the keyboard. With most games, just picks whatever community control profile is most popular and have fun.

To start, enjoy any game labeled as Great on Deck. These games will be as console-simple as it gets, and they're all set to have acceptable performance by default, so there will usually be no need to tweak or adjust anything. Just install, play, enjoy, like a console.

Don't worry so much about what other people are saying in regards to performance. You can find plenty of complaints online regarding the performance of Baldur's Gate 3, yet it's consistently near the top of the most played games on the Steam Deck, so people are clearly enjoying it. Of course it's not going to run on the Deck as well as on a desktop PC with a full-fat, watt gulping GPU, but it runs well enough for countless people to have a good time with it, and that should be good enough for anyone.

I think you’re right, I might play BG3 as it says is great on deck even if people say it’s not. Thanks for your opinion it really helped me 😊

Even in that case, I wouldn't really say that it was the inputs that were the limiting factor - you can do an awful lot with radial menus and button chords if you're sufficiently motivated - but rather that it's difficult to easily show the amount of information that some games give you when you've got a seven inch screen. City builders, RTS games, 4X games and the like have always benefitted from as large a screen as you can throw at them.

FWIW OP, I don't normally go for RPGs, but I loved playing through all the Shadowrun games on the Deck. Controls weren't an issue because of the trackpads. And I love point & click adventure games, and I've played a whole bunch of those on the Deck.

I’ll take a look to the shadowrun games then! 😊
