Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam deck is amazing, I like it better than the rog ally x
I had the rog ally x since release and sold it. I really loved it's performance, and I do like the analog position a little better for fps games than the deck, but the steam deck is great is way more comfortable to hold and it doesn't use windows. Windows for a handheld, so many times my rog ally x would just light up and turn on for no reason, I didn't understand and it drove me nuts.

Then there is something called EmuDeck. You can get roms and there is this other thing called steam rom manager, and it puts the roms in your library with a cover art. Many of the games, you can choose which cover art from many choices.

The rog ally x is still a great machine, it can run newer games better. I buy a lot of new games but lately just feel they don't stack up to older games, and right now I think indies is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for gaming.

I never used this site postimg, but imagegur is saying it's at capacity. =/

One shows how you can set up your roms, the other is the case it came with. I saw it tell me I had some gift reward to redeem, I half payed attention and missed what it was or I redeemed it. I forgot what the 1tb version comes with. Anything important asides the extra space?

The recently released Decky Loader plugin Decky-Framegen may be good with newer dx12 games

Maybe I spoke too soon. My right track pad stopped working. How do I go into settings and find how to put it to a mouse? I did, but forgot where it was. I can't click when I press steam and move the mouse around.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/184zeo4/right_trackpad_not_working/

I found this.

Not long ago I tried the steam deck plugged into a tv, used a xbox controller. Then when I stopped, trials of mana stopped working. I wasn't even playing that! It was the only game that didn't read my inputs of the steam controller, so a restart.

Now, my right trackpad doesn't work unless i tap the steam button, and I have to press down with right trigger. x_x

Okay I fixed it. Apparently I had to go to desktop mode and turn off steam.

I need help with this. Where is the trackpad settings? I can't believe I may have to return this crap. The trackpad only works in desktop mode, and I have to close steam every time if I want to be able to use it to click. It doesn't work at all in game mode.

I fixed the track pad. I'm starting to wonder about all those youtubers I watch. While I agree windows isn't the best for a handheld..things still just worked.

The steamdeck with its ssd needs constant restarts and it's slow to restart.
:teddy_talk: I have this thing called "mania" basically it's quickly changing mood.

You should update your threads title:

I had the steam deck since Monday. I am updating when something is wrong or not.

I like to compare products so other people who may be interested can read my experience.

Thanks for the bump.

Instead of over reacting to everything, instead try to understand how it works.

For example the trackpads. In Desktop Mode, there is a configuration that you can configure how you want the controls to work. Within a game, in Game Mode or Desktop Mode, there is a controller layout you can edit. Within Game Mode but 'not in a game', there is a predefine configuration of controls we don't have access to...

In a game -> You can change controls
Outside a game in Desktop Mode -> You can change controls
Outside a game in Game Mode -> You cannot change controls (at least today)

If you are in a game and something isn't working, it's likely not part of the default control layout. Just change it.

Thanks for the help. I was frustrated because I didn't know what went wrong, and generally I didn't have those problems but I am more familiar with windows(ally) and switch is more console.

Now that I have things working, I really do stick with the topic's title. I do enjoy it more than the rog ally, I do not mind the lower res, the screen, I can tell it's bigger. And the OLED is very nice, and for the screen size, I'm perfectly fine with the resolution. Dead Space 2 looks amazing, and it runs my favorite games from the 360/xb1 era at 60 fps. Games that say it's not supported or limited, seem to work well, Dead Space 2 was a good example, but Spec Ops the Line I was able to figure out how to get working right by going to proton compatibility.
You sold a great handheld for a subpar one.

I sold it for a reason tho, aside the windows thing(Which honestly isn't the worst thing but I always have to have my bluetooth mouse and keyboard near it), I really felt it was too bulky. The steamdeck is better designed IMO, on how it feels to hold it. I was skeptical of where the analog sticks were vs the d pad at first, but it's become 2nd nature.

I have had two straight hard locks today, playing Guns of Fury. =/ It's been working every day since Tues, then resuming it today, it froze. Then, I made sure to close it after playing, I launched it this time from steam, and steam frozen up while launching it and I had to do a second straight hard reset. ^^ I hope they patch the game because it says not compatible, it is, but the two hard crashes, may be from the game?
