Steam Deck

SD card issue
Are they ever gonna fix the OS issue causing SD card problems? It's been weeks and my games are still lagging on the deck. On my computer they run fine.

What issue? I've been running games from my SD card for a while without any lag whatsoever.
You might want to describe the issue you're talking about so people can give you a hand or point you in the direction of what's causing said problem.

Can you explain what you mean by "lagging"? I would not expect running a game from the SD card to have any effect on things like input or network latency. An SD card might experience slightly longer loading times than the internal SSD, but after it's loaded, performance should be identical. Comparing games to how they run on your computer isn't really a useful benchmark since your computer is probably a completely different set of hardware.

Games are experiencing slow down. Some that weren't having any issues were running perfect before on my deck. I asked steam support and they said it was an issue with the OS. I put one of the games on the SSD and it ran perfectly fine.

Gonna need more specifics. Just to confirm, are you still running SteamOS, and not Windows?

Name a couple of games. And are these "Open World" games?

Some games stream load while the game is running. Wind Waker was touted as a revolution for this capability, aside from it being mostly water between levels.

Slower drives can result in CPU spikes, but these issues are more apparent on spinning disk HDDs which seem to use 100% CPU for just texture streaming.

If an SD Card is having this issue, then the CPU may already be maxxed out before it attempts to stream load textures.

What type of SD card are you using and which games are showing the slowdown? Are you playing while offline or online?

I'm on Steam OS still yes. New Super Lucky's Tale, Phoenix wright trilogy, Pacman World Repac, Poi are some of them. Poi ran perfectly a couple of months ago last I fully replayed it no slowdowns at all. I was told by Steam Support that it was a read issue caused by the OS that they're gonna resolve in an update.

The game should be running fine and it did when I played it a couple of months ago. It's native and deck verified.

Only played it for a few minutes but it played fine. Solid 60 fps when running around.

I don't know the FPS but when I was testing it recently it was very noticeable slow down. I replayed the game on my deck a couple of months ago and it ran smooth.

No slowdowns in my testing. You should enable the overlay and see if there is any useful data.
