Steam Deck Temperature
I enjoy playing Mirrors Edge Catalyst on my steam deck but my temperature gets to about 80 degrees + Celsius during it. I'm really scared for the longevity of the machine and if playing at high temperatures will ruin the future for my steam deck. is 80 degrees ok for steam deck or should I lower down the setting a little?

80c is fine. That’s what my deck runs that game at too.

Too hot is 95c

Damn am I the only one who doesn't like when it even touches 72?
Yall could turn down Shadows and AA a peg and see those temps and processing drop quick, with little to no impact visually in most games

That’s really not realistic when you try to play 60fps games. Some older AAA games will run and stay around 70c but anything in the last 5yrs or so will make the deck work.

what would me considered unsafe temperatures?

Modern CPUs & GPUs are designed to be perfectly safe in the 80 C range. That's fine.

I'd be concerned if you see it going over 90 C; 95 C is definitely unsafe. Your Deck will probably automatically shut down if it reaches 100 C, but that shouldn't happen if something in the cooling system breaks, as the CPU & GPU will throttle themselves to cool down if they get that hot.

Manufacturers and tech enthusiasts typically agree that if software goes above 95C, it’s unsafe.

This is because software that reports temperature or firmware that makes that data available can be off by a little bit, and 95C accomodates for that.

The max most processors can reach before they’ll slow down to try to protect themselves is typically 105C, though many mobile devices like laptops and handhelds have multiple thresholds to try to protect the user as well.

I usually cap framerate for 3D games at 30 FPS and I get a great performance boost.

Don't really want my temperatures above 70 also

Entertainment electronics are rated for about 90°C. Unless you get there, there's absolutely no reason to think about it, unless you like worrying about nothing for the sake of worrying.

Speaking of worrying, still no need to worry if you get there. Entertainment electronics don't die from overheating, they throttle from overheating. They may even turn themselves off from overheating in exterme cases to prevent heat death!

So yeah, the only reason to worry about those temperatures is if you like worrying. If that's what you like, go ahead :p2chell:
