Steam Deck Compatibility "Playable" ?
There are 2 options "Playable" and "Verified".

I know what is "Verified". What "playable" means? Is it "you can use it with some problems" or "it is running almost perfectly"? Thanks!

Playable just means you will either have the occassional issue, or need to tweak the setup to run it initally.

But, tbh, a ton of unverified also work fine.

I played a title yesterday for over 2 hours that is marked as Unsupported. Default install and it was amazing. Not sure what 'fine details' are for their qualifications to mark certain titles as Unsupported. Sure, I get that anti-cheat measures are causing issues. And they do not include GE. And I have read all their statements on what qualifies as Unsupported. But when a title runs great with a default install I have to wonder if they either made an error during testing or perhaps recent updates have alleviated issues that led to the Unsupported tag in the first place.

Playable means it doesnt 100% meet valves criteria for verified status "controller prompts, screen resolution, need to use the virtual keyboard manually", but it should work other then that

May I ask what game that was?

BTW, my camera stand arrives today...sometime...and I can hopefully start shooting decent footage of game play of some titles on the Deck.

There are lots of ways that a game can fail to meet the Verified criteria. Clicking on the Deck Verified Status button will tell you what the reasons are for a particular game that is in the Playable category.

You can find a lot of details in here:
https://www.steamdeck.com/en/verified

To understand what "Playable" means it's good to understand what "Verified" means. For a game to be "Verified" it has to meet the following requirements:
  • Input - The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.
  • Display - The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280x800 or 1280x720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.
  • Seamlessness - The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.
  • System Support - If running through Proton, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.

If a game does not meet some of these requirements but is otherwise functional on the Deck, it is "Playable". Each game that has been checked by Valve has their own Compatibility Details that tells you more closely what aspect of the game does not meet Verified requirements. The details also inform you if a game is unsupported and why. Possible reasons can for example be VR or anti-cheat.

According to Valve verified games works great on Deck out of the box. Playable games may require manual tweaking, using a community controller config, using the touchscreen to navigate a launcher etc. Unsupported games, at least according to Valve, are not currently functional on the Deck.

All this and more can be found at that link I gave above.

Could you list some of the titles? So far I only have 1 game in all my testing that does not work.

For unsupported/unknown games you can check if the game has a native linux version or protondb.com to get an idea if there is any chance at all of running it. But it still can happen that a game with a good rating on protondb doesn't run on the deck.

Here is Ghost of a Tale on my Steam Deck. Listed as Unsupported. Not Unverified, Unsupported. This is a default install, no tinkering required.

I am sorry, I copied your gameplay and I posted on reddit. I wanted to check are there any more games like this. it seems that many "Unsupported" games have no any issues on Steam Deck. Thats is very interesting. I will get Steam Deck very soon :exclamation: And I will test EVERYTHING what is "Unsupported" :MaterialGirl_expression3:

Nothing to be sorry about :) I thought is was pretty neat. You deserve an award! No one has done that in a long time with something I posted. I want people to see that game works because I think very highly of the care they put into that game. Thanks for putting it up

On a similar note, The Witcher 2 had to use an older proton, 5.13-6 to run well but after last night's Deck update, GE now runs the game better than ever.
