(non-steam game help) Any way to run a MySQL server for modded Minecraft without disturbing the immutable filesystem?
Specifically, the Pixelmon Wondertrade mod relies on a MySQL server even when being used in solo offline play. I've googled a lot about this, but apparently this combo of hardware and software has not been attempted yet, so I'd appreciate some guidance on userspace MySQL servers for this purpose.

You will have to install a 'local' instance of MySQL onto your home directory and configure it, and then there is the issue that will have to create service files separately and copy those every time there is a major update to SteamOS (as those more likely will get overwritten by the update, but your locak copy of MySQL should survive.

I would strongly suggest running it in a chroot jail. chroot is an older version of sandboxing

You can use brew.sh for this. I've been running MySQL on my Steam Deck for over a year for work (web dev).
