Yes you can. I have Win10 installed on a sandisk external ssd. When the Steamdeck is turned off, you just have to hold down the volume down button and press the power button to enter the bootmanager.

so that means worse problems than those you could experience a few times with the steam os, but with less support and usually worse performance.

Did MS do some bs that makes Xcloud only work on Edge? It should at the very least work on any blink browser and really firefox too unless it's intentionally bricked.

Probably has to do with edge being Chromium based.

Yes you can install windows! Steam provides drivers for this, but they do not officially support the install of windows on the Steam Deck, so if there are any problems, any fixes are entirely up to you.

However, i believe there are ways to get the xbox gamepass thingy working with Steam OS - and it works pretty great! So you don't even need windows =) I'll see if I can dig up a video for you.

But i don't have Gamepass Ultimate, so it's only working for cloud. Not the actual Xbox Game Pass,
It's a little confusing that they are both called Xbox Game Pass
Basically all methods here are not using any boot to start windows.

It is confusing the way MS named xbox game pass subscription levels. But using MS Store games or xbox live games or xbox game pass games simply need a windows os. There is a new Xbox app on windows for managing your library, game pass, community features and accessing cloud gaming.


Oddly i cant help noticing some games from MS Store are now in Steam Store (Forza, MS Flight Simulator) and some games in Steam Store support xbox live features like the old Dirt 3

Not sure if these games run on Steam Deck through SteamOS.


Search youtube for ETA Prime, he recently gave instructions and demo of windows running on Deck iirc.
