2. have you changed the default password in desktop mode?
3. are you using the Discovery store version of ProtonUp-QT? Flatpak permissions are weird. Websearch "flatseal" and "flatseal steam deck"
4. I'm running out of suggestions
5. Some people are having trouble with 5GHz WiFi, have you tried using a 2.4GHz connection?
You aren't installing "the latest version of Proton." The latest version of Proton comes with Steam. You're trying to install a completely different thing - GE-Proton - which is a fork of Proton made by somebody else. It isn't a necessary thing at all, and certainly not as "the very first thing you do."
Yes, but the internet is terribly slow.
2. have you changed the default password in desktop mode?
No. Why does this matter? And how do I do that?
3. are you using the Discovery store version of ProtonUp-QT? Flatpak permissions are weird. Websearch "flatseal" and "flatseal steam deck"
Yes
4. I'm running out of suggestions
Okay
5. Some people are having trouble with 5GHz WiFi, have you tried using a 2.4GHz connection?
That's my next thought...
its useful to have tho. some games like resident evil use windows media player during cut scenes and they wont play the video under proton 7 or experimental but works flawlessly using GE
Well I want GE Proton, and I am going to get it as the first thing to play ME Legendary.
It may not in this case, but it is still a good thing to do.
Open the program Konsole
type "passwd" without the quotations and press enter.
follow the prompts to change the password. This is the password you will need for anything which requires root access, or anytime you run a command in the Konsole that requires "sudo"
Weird.
