Copying games to PC with a cable? Is it possible without a network?
Hi!

I just moved a week ago and i won't have anything but 10mbps mobile internet for the next 2 weeks. I know that as long as both devices are on the same network (PC and Steam Deck), i can copy the games over network rather then downloading them twice.

I have Forza Horizon 5 on my Steam Deck that i would like to copy to my PC but i don't have a router. No wifi on my PC so can't even use my phone as a router. I tried doing USB tethering to the PC and wifi hotspot for the deck hoping it would recognise it as one network but no luck.

I've spend 6 days downloading Horizon Zero Dawn and Forza Horizon is twice the size. It's installed on my steam deck but i'd like to play it with high resolution and graphics on my PC.

Is there a way to transfer files over a cable? maybe to get them on the same network without purchasing a router?

Without a real network set up, SD card is probably your next-best approach.

I can just copy the files to the steam library and it'll work? I was thinking of "Transferring" them through Steam as i had negative experience in the past (similar situation no proper internet and i was reinstalling my computer) when i copied the game to a pendrive,i then inserted it to the steamapps folder with the other games but i couldn't get steam to recognise that the game is on the drive. i guess i'll just manually move the files and hope for the best.

You need to have the apmanifest files acf in the Steamapps folder, games go to the common. Best to copy out the steamapps folder - acf files tells Steam the data about the games you own.If missing then games appear as uninstalled.

I tried the SD card but windows won't even recognise the SD card from Steam Deck. (it recognises it but can't read the file system) I tried total commander as well,no luck. I don't have a pendrive large enough to copy the game, trying to do what was in the linked video but i can't find Decky Loader on Discover. Tried to download it from github but i have no idea how to install stuff on linux... i grew up using ms windows with .exe ...... I guess i just give up and will play in 2 weeks when i get the internet.

The problem is that i can't even open the steam deck folder as windows doesn't support the filesystem SteamOS is using. I can open it on the deck but i don't have a large enough pendrive or external drive to copy the game on.
