How do I use the power management options?
So far, the only option that seems to do anything at all is the FPS limit. Scaling mode and scaling filter do absolutely nothing for me.

I just read a thread on Reddit where someone suggests using the 'fill' scaling mode and FSR filter to sort of 'force' MHW into 16:10, but those settings make absolutely no difference on my Deck. This isn't even the first time I try them, but they just never worked.

Is there some extra step I have to perform to get those to function?

It's pretty simple: if you want to scale, you need to run the game on a non-native resolution. That is, if you want to (up)scale on the built-in screen, you need to run the game at a lower resolution than the screen's. Good luck finding games supporting resolutions that low!

The best way to experience scaling, if you really want to experience scaling, is to use an external screen. Those tend to start @ FullHD with the Deck running games @ HalfHD by default. Viola, scaling.

Oh, right. But how low would I have to go? I did lower MHW's res by what th thread recommended and I saw no changes whatsoever other than the game looking quite blurry cuz you know, low res. Do I have to set game to windowed mode or something? And what about FSR? I do see a difference when I use it natively in Session (also true when using it on Windows) even at the highest screen resolution, but the Deck's own FSR doesn't do anything.

Let's take a couple steps back here. Why exactly do you want to scale? Do you want to toy around with the tech, do you have performance issues? What problem exactly are you trying to solve?

Well, as I said, I saw a thread where someone said they 'forced' a game into a 16:10 aspect ratio by turning the resolution down, setting the scaling mode to fill, and using FSR to improve image quality. I did the exact same thing he mentioned and nothing happened at all. Same game, same resolution, same performance settings and nothing changed. I tried those options with other games and noticed no difference whatsoever.

Well, what resolution have you set the game to run at?

How does the game look on the screen?

Blurry, with the coverage being identical to when the resolution is set to 800p.

OK. What scaling mode are you using?

Fill.
I'll correct then. What scaling method are you using?

Uhm... Is that the same thing as scaling filter? If so, FSR.

I just tried this on .hack//G.U. and... it works :goatalexis: Setting it to 720p and using the fill mode does what it says on the tin. I've no clue what I could be doing wrong on MHW for it not to work there :seve:
