Proton to run Window games?
That actually works? I fear so much its just theory and in the real world you end up missing your favorite game run smooth.

As a Linux gamer that proton works great. almost all of my Windows games works fine via proton. Only games with anticheat on it does not work, but valve said it will work when the steam deck will be released to the public, they are working with anticheat vendors on that.

you can see working windows tittles on proton here: https://www.protondb.com/

The SteamOS that will be on the Steam Deck hasn't been released yet; the SteamOS that you can currently download is quite outdated and shouldn't be used.

The anti-cheat work for Proton also hasn't been made available yet: they're hoping that it will be done before launch. Proton as it currently stands is simply included in the Steam Linux client. You can use it on any Linux distro if you want to try it out.

anti cheat like used in Dead by Daylight? thats very important ow. So this Steam Linux client are install-able as packages on Debian? I ssh a lot to Raspian. I dont really want a linux Desktop, that Steam Big Screen mode will be fine.
Im wondering if my gog games will work

Dead By Daylight uses Easy Anti Cheat, I think? Yes, that's one of the ones they're specifically negotiating to make work. EAC works fine on Linux games, it's just that the Windows EAC detects Wine as Windows that's been tampered with.

So this Steam Linux client are install-able as packages on Debian?

Just a normal package.

The Steam client and all the Steam games are x86/x86_64, so they won't work on the ARM Raspberry Pi.

i know Raspberry Pi is arm. I meant to say i am most comfy with Debian since Raspian is based on it. Could you link the Steam client package for Debian please?

You can just add them to Steam as a non-Steam game. Or use something like minigalaxy for native GOG games. Or use Lutris for Windows GOG games.

XD didnt think it was that easy! I will prepare a partition on my game pc and try it out thanks. I am a bit tired to boot Linux from a stick everytime i want to use it so its time to dual boot.

Good luck! I hope you like it! 🐧

Edit: if you're most comfortable with something Debian-based, and you're preparing for the Steam Deck, you might want to consider going for Kubuntu instead: it uses KDE, the same as the Deck will.

A friend of mine is running Killing Floor 2 (which is both demanding and a diva) just fine.

If you want to try it out you can get Garuda Linux https://garudalinux.org/. It's based on Arch & has KDE Plasma which Steam OS 3.0 uses.

Box86 and Box64 say otherwise. You absolutely can run some Steam games on the RPi... rather poorly, but it is technically possible. With faster ARM devices you can actually run some games well (see Owlboy running on a RockPi).

I haven't had much time to play around with it on my own Pi (running TwisterOS, which comes with Box86, Lutris, and Steam already installed), so I'm not sure if anything runs well enough to play, but Curse of Monkey Island (1997) ran smoothly and was only hindered by intermittent audio stuttering. Dropsy, a more recent 2D adventure game from 2015, ran with a lot of slowdown (maybe on an overclocked Pi?).

But enough of that rabbit hole. Back to discussion of compatibility layers that actually work well enough to play modern games.
